With an opportunity to gain a significant sum of points at stake, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Ty Masterpool idled to the start straightaway for practice with a business-like demeanor. Calm, cool, and collected before starting the engine of his 250F, once the goggles were on, he seemed to zero-in on the grooves ahead with impenetrable focus. This translated to exceptional lap-times on the statistics sheet - earning the fastest qualifier accolade in the process, and making a point, to where competitors and opposing teams alike were monitoring his movement on the racetrack...therefore when the horn would sound for the first moto, his confidence seemed to ripple from his particular grate, into various waves that could be sensed by adversaries all around him. The first lap was underway shortly thereafter, with palpable intensity being noticed by all who watched in person and from afar. Masterpool resided near the top-ten while attacking the racetrack with unmistakable authority. Even with the rear-end of his chassis beginning to buck, he managed to continuously apply the throttle - creating a slight trail of sorts that opponents like Coty Schock were having a hard time distinguishing. But an unfortunate mistake on the second lap, would cost him multiple positions and deter him to thirteenth. He immediately, re-established the flow and went to work...passing opponents like Ryder McNabb, Julien Beaumer, and Nicholas Romano...and even the aforementioned Schock, as he worked his way well into single-digit territory. His resiliency was applauded by the crowd as laps would amass, and with the checkered flag waving not too far within the foreground, his eventual defense over that of Beaumer (who was the next opponent behind), equated to a hard-fought score of eighth in the record book. For the second round of competition, once the gates unlatched, he and the dozens of other competitors on the circuit swarmed the first corner with no regard for fear. His anticipation was critical in the opening moments, where new ruts had now formed and various hooks had created jagged pathways - and he had to decipher on the fly. All the while, the GasGas rider was persistently on his rear wheel…and the overt revving of Ryder DiFrancesco was always playing into the thought process of Masterpool as the timer continued to tick. Doing his best to jump and keep the front end light when powering behind the starting line, the roost from his rear was enough to sustain a marginal gap between he and Joey Savatgy with the track beginning to dry. Ruts were now blue grooved and hard to combat, with subtle nuances like body positioning, brake application, and even tire pressure playing into how hard someone could necessarily push it…but in the end, his longevity was key - and enabled Masterpool to garner a strong position of sixth, after not only keeping established veterans at bay, but also capitalizing on the misfortune of his teammate, Levi Kitchen - for seventh overall on the day...which will certainly bring him momentum when heading into round four of the 250MX championship.
