TY MASTERPOOL | GRIT-222 | 450MX
For round two of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, those in the 450cc field would be expecting one of the roughest tracks of the year to emerge within the hillside(s) of Sacramento, California. And the preparation of Ty Masterpool (who'd moved to the 450cc class after the first round of Fox Raceway, where he previously rode the 250F)had him firing at the highest velocities as the track continued to evolved throughout practice sessions, with many in the field chasing Honda's Jett Lawrence as he initially strove below the 2:10 mark! Though Cooper Webb and Dylan Ferrandis were just behind him, and Masterpool's speed wasn't far off in its own regard - making for an exciting beginning to the first moto of the day. Pellets of dirt clods and small rock were being thrown from the rear wheel(s) of his adversaries as they dashed through the opening circuits, but he would weather the storm to emerge around the twenty-second position as minutes continued to transpire. Storming through the off-set and tapering rhythm lane when nearing the largest step-down on the circuit, he could sense that of Jerry Robin attempting to move forward amongst a series of inside lines. But with an outpouring of speed, he would be the first (of the two opponents) to the inner most ruts on all occasions, defending the charge of the Yamaharider while he tried to clench a top-tier position. This would lead to around the seventeen minute mark, where he felt as if a top-ten standing for this outing could be solidified before the checkered flag was thrown. The final (roughly) fifteen minutes were then a battle of attrition as he combatted the square-edges of the California circuit, where a multitude of rear-end kicks and fish-tails would have him contemplating the idea of backing it down as the checkered flag neared. But the mindset of this professional athlete would thrive on giving it his all, which overrode any sort of fear as he eventually clenched a remarkable seventh place score, for the finality of the first round. Seeing the opportunity of solidifying a top-ten overall come to fruition in the first few moments of moto two, he knew that excelling on one of the highest stages in the sport was just what he'd trained for over the course of the year(s) prior. Therefore with every bump that was pummeled and opponent that was passed, came a means of increased motivation; which amplified his lead over Derek Drake around the sixth and seventh circuit(s) of competition. He had to be mindful of throttle control in the slickest switchback of them all, which was not too far after the first corner of action. But with versatility and awareness, he was able to keep his Kawasakitracking at an optimal rate when it mattered most. And throughout the last three laps of action, when it seemed as though many were beginning to fade, he would push forward - which led to a standing of seventhbeing secured, for sixth overall in the record book.
