With thousands of fans flocking to the Ironman facility on Saturday, many in attendance were curious as to who would emerge in the top-ten, amid the highly competitive 250MX class. Immediately, as enthusiasts observed the myriad of practice sessions in the morning hours, GasGas' Ryder DiFrancesco would portray the attributes of an athlete ready to compete in the highest tier of racing...and he would solidify that hypothesis with daring passes among the opening laps of the first moto - ready and willing to engage in incredible speeds in order to reach single digit territory. Flowing over the multitude of rollers that were scattered on the circuit, DiFrancesco's "SX" prowess was evident as he carried a sense of rhythm that appeared natural and in complete synchronization with the obstacles of the Indiana circuit. Despite acquiring an opening standing of thirteenth, he was eager to move forward and would make passes in small windows of race-track that otherwise didn't seem to be located by the majority of opposing forces. He quickly moved into ninth while taking advantage of the condensed roster that was in front of him, making moves on opponents as they were clustered among other motorcycles while he remained efficient on the GasGas chassis. He was battling with R.J. Hampshire at that time, and he and the veteran would go "back and forth" while striving for the eighth-place residency. All the while, they would catch, and pass, that of Kawasaki's Drew Adams -before also doing the same to 450MX veteran Ken Roczen. Though the pressure from KTM's Julien Beaumer would rise as the checkered flag waved in the distance, DiFrancesco would combat the hard-charging attributes of the Arizona native as he dashed to the finish-line...scrubbing over the final jump to acquire seventh before exiting the raceway. As he shifted into gear for the second moto, Ryder sped into an opening standing of third while striving among the leaders of the field. His start was exceptional, and as he carved a multitude of inside lines to make some passes among the first few lanes, he seemed to be embody the momentum necessary to retain a position at the pinnacle of the pack. Despite being surpassed by Yamaha's Haiden Deegan in the moments that followed, DiFrancesco would remain fourth for a significant amount of time...yet R.J. Hampshire was on the move and approaching quickly as the final quarter of the moto came to fruition. The veteran would overtake his standing on the eleventh circuit, yet Ryder immediately latched onto the pace that he (Hampshire) was presenting and would mirror the line selection of the Floridian to the finish-line...where the Bakersfield native earned a final score of fifth, and seventh overall for the eleventh round of the outdoor championship!
