RJ HAMPSHIRE | GRIT-214 | SX 250

Following a spectacular showing in Daytona, Florida (aboard the 450cc machine) Husqvarna's RJ Hampshire was eager to bring the amplified confidence back to the 250cc classification; where he felt as if he could maneuver and toss the smaller chassis around, even amid the countless ruts of Lumen Field. For qualification, his momentum when down-siding the single before returning to the start straight would be spectacular, speeding into the chute before the sand section at the height of third (and fourth) gear prior to barreling into his native beach(y) terrain. His focus on attacking corners along with prolonged braking points, would lead to an overall accrual of second before heading into the night show. In the hours that followed, he and other members of heat one would be aligned on the grid while darkness loomed atop the stadium...and as the thirty-second board went sideways, the howling of his Husqvarna engine would accompany his chassis as it bolted into turn number one! Emerging through the initial stages of the moto while fighting through traffic, his opening lap residency of ninth was less than desired. But the relentlessness of the Floridian was evident, and empowered him to make passes in bundles before the halfway point. He would be in fifth, around lap five, and knew that Kaeden Amerine and Hunter Yoder could be overtaken prior the checkered flag being thrown. And with that sense of visualization he would pass both, the KTM and Kawasaki adversaries prior to exiting the race course with third-place to his name. This would lead to the main event, where the narrative of striving for the points lead would continue. He would do his best to nullify the front-end raising while putting power to the rear wheel, negating the mistakes of others as he leaped into the opening section of obstacles battling for a cemented residency inside the top-five. Quickly settling into the fourth-place position, Hampshire would watch from only bike lengths back as Jett Lawrence, Stilez Robertson, and Cameron McAdoo would quarrel over the lead! The Yamaha rider would slow the other two opponents ever so slightly, causing a log jam of sorts to arise when they doubled alongside the mechanic's area with ten minutes remaining on the clock. This would lead to a disastrous crash occurring on behalf of Robertson, who slammed head-first into the ground, at the conclusion of the whoop section! Hampshire then moved forward and into third, with only McAdoo and Lawrence now ahead. His urgency to proceed into second couldn't be ignored, as Hampshire enacted a daring move (via a tripling roller combination) just before the wall, on the inside, with around nine and a half minutes to go! This allowed him to claim second with authority, but he had to be vigilant with ruts now seated amongst every inch of the raceway (which nearly claimed his Husqvarna on multiple occasions). All seemed to be well, until less than five minutes remained, when McAdoo would counter out of nowhere (in the rhythm lanes before the sand section) pushing the Floridian now back to third! However...one final rebuttal would be showcased by the number twenty-four machine, just before taking the white flag. It was Hampshire who saw an opportunity to dart forward with a sweeping move from one side of the track to the next (amid the final corner on the circuit), running McAdoo wide and overtaking the runner-up position! He ultimately would stamp his final standing within the silver medal bracket, concluding the moto here with a feeling of immense accomplishment.
