Racing within the highly competitive Open A and 250 A "Road to SX Futures" divisions, Iowa's Patrick Murphy understood the magnitude of opponents he would be facing prior to aligning on the starting gate in Daytona. The Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross Championship attracted top-tier talent from around the world, and Murphy would stand out amongst superior athletes aboard his Yamaha machine(s). He began both classes with solid heat race runs, but amplified his advancement to the finish line in main events for the aforementioned divisions; claiming a championship in the Open division, and a runner-up overall on his 250cc machine.
