The speed that was showcased in practice by the Tennessee native, was carried into the heat race format thereafter. Yamaha's Nate Thrasher was phenomenal all day, and put forth his strongest burst of sprint speed for the divisional round of the evening program. He initially resided behind GasGas' Ryder DiFrancesco and monitored the aggression levels of the Californian for the first few minutes. However on the third circuit, the number fifty-seven of Thrasher saw an opportunity to move forward. It was at the initial stage of the longest rhythm lane, where Thrasher noticed Ryder drifting wide...and immediately took advantage by closing off the line in which DiFrancesco aspired toward. Ryder would slightly disengage, and it enabled Thrasher to advance to the lead. He would then take reign of the field - but he couldn't help but notice RJ Hampshire approaching him rather quickly within the final few laps of competition! The Husqvarna rider was everywhere on the racetrack! Urgently searching for a means to move around, but Thrasher's line of defense was paramount. Sprinting to the checkered flag, it was Nate who took the eventual win...and rolled to the line in the main event thereafter with momentum! Once there, Thrasher quickly made his way into the top-five and would undergo a collision with that of RJ Hampshire in the middle portion, of the switchback berm section. The run-in by Thrasher was aggressive, and as he attempted to force RJ to the outside, he subsequently appeared to clip the bars and left side of his shroud which sent a jolt of shock and impact into the machine of the Floridian. They both remained upright, but Thrasher couldn't seem to capitalize on the subtle absence of speed that Hampshire had to undergo. He resided fifth, at that point...and remained engaged in the moto while seeing that Jordon Smith and RJ were going to battle after a few minutes of action in the following moments of the main event. As the aforementioned tandem nearly collided (sending Smith off the racetrack, around four minutes into the moto), the mistake would grant Thrasher a significant amount of time in regard to regaining position on the fellow Yamaha combatant. And on the sixth circuit, the move past Smith would be made! Thrasher was now in fourth, while seeing the battle for the top-three positions (i.e. Shimoda, Kitchen, and Hampshire) unravel in front of him...and the Tennessean yearned to lessen the gap between he and the trio. However, they were all running at a stellar pace, and Thrasher was unfortunately unable to capitalize on any of their mistakes - leaving him fourth overall, in the city of Denver.
