MAXIMUS VOHLAND | GRIT-229 | 250MX
KTM's Maximus Vohland had returned to a superb form for the entirety of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, with the Californian excelling as layouts promoted higher speeds and rougher terrain. The number thirty-four would transition his talents to the surface(s) of New Berlin, New York on Saturday where he we welcomed by endless amounts of traction as he stormed onto the circuit in the morning hours for practice. His flow throughout the finish-line section would be remarkable, and undoubtedly act as a catalyst for a seventh-place registry to be sustained prior to launching forward from the starting grid of moto-one. He would battle amongst the top five, contending for the third place position for a good portion of the lap before being registered fourth as he passed the green flag. He would hold here until lap four, where he was sly enough to take advantage of a mistake by Justin Cooper and all the while inherit the third-place standing! And then as lap nine came to fruition shortly thereafter, he could see Pro Circuit's Seth Hammaker beginning to make subtle mistakes in different aspects of the racecourse - and Vohland took advantage of the slower speed(s), by making a definitive pass on the Pennsylvanian just before the "Wall Turn!" In undoubtedly one of his strongest performances of the year just far, Vohland would retain the runner-up position for a good while...until Hunter Lawrence and he would partake in a notable battle on the furthest straightaway from the starting gate! This would be with around eighth minutes left on the clock, where the two were side by side amongst gradual rollers and a series of singles, with neither giving an inch before the final left-hander atop the hill. However, Lawrence had the inside position and would eventually close the door on the number thirty-four, prior to making their way back to the infield. He was anything but discouraged though, even after being passed any Haiden Deegan and Jo Shimoda shortly thereafter. He was only twelve-seconds back from the leader, with two laps to go...and with Haiden Deegan's bike issues, Vohland would inherit a furthered position in the running order - securing fourth, as the checkered flag was eventually thrown. For moto-two, Vohland's starting position of tenth would be prominent, and he would quickly move ahead to secure eighth by the time lap five arose. Sixth was then captured by lap eight, where he'd passed multiple Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders (including that of Ryder DiFrancesco and Seth Hammaker) which gave him a bit of open-track to work with. It was Austin Forkner though, who occupied the position ahead and was riding with incredible speeds, which made it difficult to advance forward...though as all was said and done, Vohland's ability to acquire sixth amid the second-moto chaos, would be strong enough to earn fifth overall in the final standings!
