MAXIMUS VOHLAND GRIT-221 250MX

MAXIMUS VOHLAND | GRIT-221 | SX 250

Tirelessly training over the past few months, the determination of KTM's Maximus Vohland was almost a tangible trait as he idled through the pits early on Saturday morning. Revving his bike from afar, he would demand respect before shifting into gear and bursting onto the start straightaway with a stealth-like sense of vision. His arcing of various corners was phenomenal, and mimicked that of Dylan Ferrandis in the 450cc classification, before ultimately concluding qualification in the second-place residency and heading into the first moto with his sight(s) set on a top tier finish. Once the gate would fall for the opening race of the day, there was immediately an exhilarating battle taking place at the front of the field, including Jo Shimoda, RJ Hampshire, and Jalek Swoll. The three combatants were some of the fastest athletes in all of the field, but Vohland could see the aforementioned trio not far ahead and would rival them when hitting the double-double section following the steep infield step-up. "The mountain" as some would call it, would be littered with braking bumps down the backside; where he would lightly drag the rear brake (to nullify the kicking of the rear shock) all the while staying in a higher gear than normal to put less strain on the chassis. This would help him adopt the idea of efficiency when flying past the halfway point, where he moved into the position of second after passing Jo Shimoda (with the Kawasaki rider's mistake) and would do his best to sprint away from the likes of a hard-charging Hunter Lawrence, as well.He would be applauded by his mechanic as he stormed passed the area of crew chiefs and supporters amid the final six minutes of action, where messages (and lap-times) would be scribed on the pit-board in order to keep him calm and up to date on what was going on around him. And with a sense of accomplishment, he would cross the line in second after staying ahead of Lawrence, while readying his mindset for the second moto. All seemed to be well off of the start, until an unfortunate washout just a few corners into competition, would have him knifing the front-end over a small inside roller (where countless riders would pass by him). He would manage to accrue sixteenth as lap number one was completed, and proceeded to strive forward with all of his might while doing his best to eliminate mistakes as well. He had worked his way into tenth by lap four, and then would contest the likes of Ryder DiFrancesco and Levi Kitchen when pushing past the halfway point. This was a solid trajectory for the KTM rider, until another brief mistake would have him descending to eleventh in the latter stages of the moto...but he wouldn't quit and aspired to reach higher in the last laps of action. Eventually climbing to ninth, his overall score of sixth would be outstanding with how the deep the field was in this 250cc class!
