MAXIMUS VOHLAND | GRIT-219 | SX 250
Believing that the atmosphere of Denver would be electric, the enthusiasm of Maximus Vohland was on full display from the first lap of free practice, on Saturday afternoon. Though there weren't many jumps to throw stylish whips over, he would somehow manage to show his excellent maneuvering skills over the finish-line and double before the whoops...generating immense applause from the crowd before gathering a notable time in the laps that followed. The native Californian was hitting his marks with precision, and embodied speed amongst inside(s) and outside(s) that would be applauded by his mechanic behind the barrier...and translated into that of heat one, where he and another KTM rider (i.e. Derek Kelley) immediately engaged in battle. The two rival's were swinging from one lane to another with an abundance of power; making daring moves on a split-second(s) notice, all the while displaying world renowned skill(s) amongst their 250cc chassis. Though nearly going over the bars (on the wall jump before the finish line), he remained brilliant in the longest rhythm section on the track, maintaining a sense of speed amongst the multitude of triples that was accompanied with complete control; landing in the smallest of grooves, while departing in the same rut(s) amongst takeoff's that followed! He would take a subtle glance over his left shoulder, at the height of his travel through the air amid the double before the whoops - seeing none other than Kelley making a charge as they neared the finish line. Though he never doubted his ability to retain the third-place position, which was corralled when soaring past the checkered flag not long thereafter. As the gate(s) fell for the main event not long thereafter, he would execute the start to perfection and eventually take the leading designation with the entirety of the pack behind him. He would lead a total of two (complete) laps in the process, prior to being passed by Levi Kitchen, and RJ Hampshire almost immediately thereafter. Now third, he could sense that the ClubMX Yamaha rider (of Enzo Lopes) was just behind him; and Vohland would do a multitude of moves in order to keep Lopes at bay...but the number fifty-six wasn't going to go away that easy, and would proceed to work his way to the inside of Vohland in the corner just after the mechanic's area. And when doing so, would force Maximus to nearly stall (with an absence of momentum) and subsequently tip-over, falling to the ground! He would descend to eighth-place when concluding the next lap of action, but refused to quit while charging toward Derek Kelley and Carson Mumford (who were both passed by him) prior to the main event concluding. Ultimately finalized in sixth, Vohland would seek to end his 2023 SX tenure on a high note for that of Salt Lake City.
