Wanting to generate "an edge" on the competition per se, Yamaha's Marshal Weltin was said to be working overtime while preparing for this event at Gillette Stadium. His focus was imminent from the moment the green flag waved for the initial practice session, where after a few lines of scouring the racing surface, he engaged in an all-out dash to timing and scoring sensors. There was little to critique as he acquired a direct transferring bid to the night show thereafter, and as he aligned on the starting grid with opponents like Max Anstie and Coty Schock, in heat two, you could sense his confidence as he revved the throttle while up-shifting with the left lever. Fighting for every inch of race-track as he seat-hopped the finish-line double, he was aware of Hardy Munoz who constantly revved from just a few feet behind. There was little room for error as he swayed through the various one-eighty degree corners on the circuit, but through every apex, the height of RPM's his engine could provide ample power for whatever obstacle was on the horizon in the foreground. Amid the last sixty-seconds, it was an all-out charge to the end...where he bested that of Preston Boespflug and the aforementioned Munoz, who trailed to occupy a notable standing of eighth. Within the finalé, the leaders of the field would scurry around the opening bend while opponents outside of the top-three (or so) were contesting each other's handlebars - with mere inches separating shrouds and radiators from collisions as they barreled into corners thereafter. Within the first quarter, he was quick to strike - thrashing the suspension upon landing from the largest obstacles, and diving into various insides while binding on both front and rear brake. The pads and rear rotor weren't necessarily to the point of squeaking, but it was evident that he was flowing into the acute ruts with a surplus of speed when watching his Gizmo Mods/Rock River/Yamaha machine steadily stretch the margin between he, Preston Boespflug and Gage Linville (who both trailed him). The segments of the moto (through the halfway point) were crucial...but he remained relentless when surging into the latter corner of the sand section; which had been decimated by countless bikes throughout the evening, creating quite the whooped-out sector before entering into the converging rhythm lane. Once into the ninth-place position, he continued to "chip away" at the checkered flag...with Henry Miller behind him remaining rather persistent, but unable to overtake him. Categorized in ninth when exiting the raceway, his adventure in Foxborough was certainly commendable.
