MARSHAL WELTIN - GRIT 239 250SX
May 18, 2024 · Marshal Weltin

GRIT-239 | 250 SX
The Michigan native's perseverance throughout the day was remarkable, and an attribute that led to one of his strongest professional feats being earned, to begin the 2024 250cc East Coast SX Championship. Marshal Weltin was no stranger to training hard and earning his spot within the sport, and the process of embodying the grueling training circumstances was one that was presented as practice, heat race, and LCQ formats were on display for Saturday evening's events. Beginning with the ten-lap qualification round, Weltin's speed was unmistakeable and it was evident that he was accustomed to this soil as he sped through bowl turns with the perfect RPM and proficient clutch usage. Though encountering a bit of trouble amid the moto, his effort was still enough to occupy fourteenth as the checkered flag waved...which sent him to the LCQ, where the number seventy-five aspired to earn redemption. As the pins unlatched, it was Weltin who weaved his way forward while showcasing calculated passes on the rutted canvas. Flat-tracking his way past the mechanics area, he then moved into the third-place residency as the halfway point appeared. Knowing that a transfer position was what mattered most, Weltin's prowess in the final stages displayed a true veteran mindset. He monitored where his opponents stood, and how much speed needed to be put forth in order to receive a ticket to the main event...and as the checkered flag waved, it was a third-place that was clenched, along with a gate position in the finalé! The opening sequences to the final event of the night were a narrative that were hard to describe, with a significant number of racers piling-up in the first turn. Yet Weltin's vision seemed to carry him through the number incidents that were scattered in the opening bend, allowing him a rather opened racetrack to compete upon. His lap-times were stellar while remaining inside the top-eight, holding the standing amongst riders like Henry Miller and Luca Marsalisi for a large chunk of the moto. His pace was one of longevity, too, where he continued to chip away at the twenty-one lap sequence with a steady pace; all the while remaining aware of how the track was breaking down. His entrance speed into the whoops would carry through the pad of moguls and into the sand, shredding the berm(s) of both inside and outside lanes as the thirteenth and fourteenth laps were completed, with Marsalisi and Trevor Colip within striking distance. Though as the checkered flag was eventually thrown, Weltin's attrition ultimately helped garner a superb ninth overall!
