KYLE CHISHOLM | GRIT-219 | SX 450

The majority of the competition within the 450cc SX division would always know where Florida's Kyle Chisholm was located; especially as the Suzukirider had heightened with speed over the course of the 2023 season (and in particular, the last few rounds of action), and continued to carry that forward-moving precedent while blasting through the various time(d) trials of Saturday's itinerary. He would launch from the triples in both rhythm lanes after the opening corner with precision, tapping the rear brake at the height of his trajectory before setting the chassis into a slight nose-dive (to perfectly land amongst the singles)...which carried into remarkable lap-times that sent him into heat number one with a strong gate pick. Once upshifting and focusing on the first turn, his reaction time and clicks through the transmission would have him battling for the number one spot amid the front of the pack; leading Ken Roczen and the rest of the field around, for a good bit of time! Though overtaken by the German rider just before the first lap was completed, he would then contend with Adam Cianciarulo over the second-place position. Eventually into third, his last battle of the heat race showcase would be between he and KTM's Justin Hill; where they left every ounce of effort in their respective arsenals on the racetrack. And though Chisholm would fall to fourth, there was no denying that the veteran was racing at the highest level(s) prior to the main event beginning. Not long thereafter, would engines rev for the finalé; where Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton would be zeroed-in on by the fans in the stands. He would have to be acknowledged as well though, seat-hopping the largest double on the track (before the whoops) while attacking the moguls thereafter without hesitation when keeping the throttle on a steadied output! The subtle nuances would lead to marginal gains, where in laps six, seven, and eight, his distance over the Honda of Dean Wilsonwould be stretched to a notable gap. Ample breathing room had been reached, though the lack of oxygen in this high-altitude atmosphere would be noticeable on his cardiovascular system. Though his initial gap over both Wilson and Josh Hill were originally sustained, it wasn't long thereafter where Chisholm was overtaken by both of those opponents (in a hard fought manner), which pushed him eighth in the final standings. Yet with back to back admirable performances (both in Denver and in Nashville), Chisholm was certainly on the right track when heading to the final round of the series next Saturday.
