KEN ROCZEN | GRIT-213 | SX 450

The astounding assembly of speed and fortitude displayed by Ken Roczen last weekend, would result in a monumental win displayed on behalf of the German rider. Roczen would generate the first victory for his team, and the Suzuki manufacturer, in quite sometime; rekindling the aura of his previous tenure on the "yellow" machine(s) in season's past. Though stoked beyond belief, Roczen's competitiveness would seek more success as gates arose in Detroit; pushing forward in practice with little regard for fear, timing his way through rhythm sections to claim third via the final listing of lap-times. This would only amplify his confidence prior to beginning heat number two, where Roczen's quick-witted reaction time would enable him to the lead designation with a number of astonishing competitors just behind. But Roczen wasn't going to falter, leading the first four laps with a stunning pace intact, before being passed by Chase Sexton. It was Sexton's eye-opening line through the rhythm section after the longest double, that aided his overtaking of the ninety-four, which Roczen proceeded to follow through with in the laps that came thereafter. It seemed as though the German had the runner-up position "in the bag," until a last lap charge from Aaron Plessinger would push him ahead of the Suzuki rider (in the final corner); leaving Roczen third, when cresting the final double. For the main event, Ken would begin sixth before being passed by Chase Sexton initially. This translated to a seventh-place standing being sustained for a significant amount of time, keeping Jason Anderson at bay, prior to the fifth lap being completed. With Anderson moving forward, he attempted to mimic the Kawasaki rider for as long as possible, until a crash from the New Mexico native would have him on the ground; leaving Roczen now advancing into the seventh-place residency. Shortly thereafter, it was Adam Cianciarulo who was passed, and Eli Tomac was now the opponent who was next to be conquered. Running phenomenal lap-times (while gaining on the Colorado resident), he seemed to be solidified in sixth as it appeared as if time were destined to run out. However, Aaron Plessinger's crash in the final moments would allow Ken to inherit fifth. Crossing the line inside the top-five would be an admirable performance for the Suzuki athlete, continuing on his streak of success that he hopes to prolong as round eleven comes to fruition next Saturday.
