The Oregon native returned to action while his Team Tedder supporting cast, was tirelessly preparing his motorcycle - and KTM's Justin Hill looked to the Massachusetts canvas as a pristine opportunity to display his skills. The crowd would be electric as nightfall was set to be cast, with thousands traveling to the venue in order to see Hill combat the various other top-tier contenders of the 450cc division. His practicing efforts were beyond commendable, and translated to a notable gate choice for heat one of the night show. Once leaping from the grate, the infiltration of the first few laps was critical, with various factory riders and notable proficient competitors striving for a position inside the top-nine. Leaping over the triple obstacle before the whoops, the upshifting through the transmission was a key component for entrance speed - amplifying the margin between he and Kawasaki's Adam Cianciarulo who was constantly attempting to counter the speed of the Pacific Northwest resident. Lap by lap, the fight for fifth would carry forward...but neither opponent seemed to wither. They'd been in this position before, and carried too much pride to simply let a fellow 450cc athlete by. Nevertheless Hill prevailed to be categorized in fifth, ahead of both Shane McElrath and Cianciarulo at the end of the moto. The formula for a successful main event tenure, would begin with a strong effort when beginning the moto...as he acquired a standing of sixth but yearned to move forward. Athletes like Cooper Webb, were racing at stellar speeds of their own; but Hill wanted to do his best to try and mimic the pack of the fastest opponents on the track, after passing Shane McElrath, for fifth! Through the seventh minute, many of the lines in the switchback section (crossing the start straightaway) consumed the majority of the berms and mid-lines for each bend. However, as the race progressed, many in the field would begin to cut beneath, and taper toward a more inside pathway to shorten the distance. Hill would do so too, constantly defending his territory from that of Hunter Lawrence, Eli Tomac, and Jett Lawrence as well. Doing everything possible to retain the top-five placement, he unfortunately began to descend near the three-quarter mark of the moto - but the speed and talent showcased by Hill, as he and fellow former 250cc champions (Justin Cooper and Malcolm Stewart) would be commendable as he pursued the checkered flag. Eventually categorized in ninth, the momentum of the KTM rider was certainly ascending prior to the finalé.
