Yamaha's Jordon Smith had built quite the resumé thus far in 2024, and wanted to continue obtaining notable results before beginning the SMX playoff's. His path to the front of the field would begin in qualification, where he was sensational throughout the morning practice sessions...which enabled him to choose a rather daring slot aboard the first-moto grid. Finding a gate choice on the far outside, Jordon would take a gamble of sorts to try and claim the hole-shot. It would pay-off tremendously, with the Yamaha rider contending the most prestigious of awards and earning a position of third as he took the green flag. Smith's speed was exceptional, and the rider from North Carolina seemed to flow with an output of velocity that had been showcased in quite sometime (when in discussion of a pure, outdoor format at least). As time progressed, the fortitude and staying power of Smith was applaud worthy - where he established a flow within the third-place residency and maintained it well past the halfway point. All the while, he could sense that Chance Hymas was beginning to lessen his pace a slight bit - and he would capitalize on the absence of momentum from the Honda rider, with a pass on lap eight! Now occupying the second-place standing, Smith remained here through the fourteenth circuit...where he would meet, a hard-charging Levi Kitchen. The effort that Smith put forth to defend his position from Kitchen was admirable, but the Washington native would ultimately outlast Jordon when speeding into the uphill corner, that proceeded the infilled tabletop. Smith had relinquished the second-place standing once and for all, and would excel to the finish line in the laps that followed for an eventual accolade of third! The performance was incredible for the veteran of the division, and he aspired to do the same for the following round of competition. His jump from the line, in the second moto, would equate to twelfth by the end of the first lap...but his ambition couldn't be denied as he quickly infiltrated the top-ten. Battling with opponents like Drew Adams and Mark Fineis, Smith would have quite the time keeping the newcomers to the professional circuit at bay. But the North Carolina native possessed numerous traits, and bits of mentality, that could only be possessed with experience at the highest level. He continued to storm across the Indiana circuit through the halfway point, and would then undergo an extensive battle with Julien Beaumer. The KTM athlete would try to keep Smith in a position behind his rear wheel, but a mistake would enable Smith to then move forward once more. It was then a battle of the veterans, between Max Anstie, he, and Joey Savatgy...which was sustained through the checkered flag. Though his teammate (i.e. Anstie) would do enough to stay ahead of him, Smith would defend his standing from the Triumph rider through the finish-line - to earn a phenomenal overall feat, of fifth.
