JORDON SMITH | GRIT-237 | 250 SX
Eager for battle and planning to repeat his performance from just seven days ago, Jordon Smith visualized the championship plate within his grasp as round number three of the Monster Energy Supercross Series came to fruition. The Dirt Wurx crew had done everything possible to prepare for the precipitation that was supposedly in the area, but regardless of what Mother Nature brought to Snapdragon Stadium, the North Carolina resident was willing to excel en route to a tremendous finish at night's end. His vision was expert-like when navigating through practice, weighting the outside foot-peg to generate sufficient traction in flattened corners. Subtle, but proficient attributes like that were a catalyst for a strong gate choice in his heat race, where he upshifted his way to an early position at the front of the field...though a slight mistake which caused him to go off-track by the "SX" triple would have him losing a few positions. Nevertheless, he remained amongst a pack of riders that included Phil Nicoletti and Ryder DiFrancesco, and as RJ Hampshire jumped off the track, the process of methodically working his way forward radiated with tremendous calculation as only Garrett Marchbanks seemed to be pulling away. Minute by minute, Smith would edge his front fender into the second-place position and never look back...finalized here as engines ceased, while garnering a solid transfer designation. As fans from around the world would tune in to see their favorite competitors under the brightest of lights, it was Smith who rose to the occasion and put forth his strongest effort in the first minute of action. He began the trek to the finish line in fourth, but would move to third rather quickly after passing Mitchell Oldenburg. All seemed to be well on this sort of trajectory, until a mistake on the fourth lap would deter him two positions, after being overtaken by Garrett Marchbanks and Nate Thrasher. The fellow Yamaha tandem were riding extremely well, motivating Jordon to continue charging amongst the muck and sections full of disastrous lines. Yet in the process of replication, Levi Kitchen would crash to the ground not long after the finish line; which allowed Smith to inherit another spot. Fourth position seemed to be well intact as the minutes on the clock diminished, though Smith had an intuition to keep speeding ahead despite the adverse conditions. That instinct would eventually come true, as RJ Hampshire would unfortunately crash with only (roughly) three corners to go, near the mechanic's area when approaching the checkered flag! Smith was able to avoid the crash to secure third, which was sustained when tackling the final double on the track - receiving the final overall podium position, in the process!
