JORDON SMITH | GRIT-212 | SX 250
Quite the contrast from Daytona, would be the atmosphere of Indianapolis; however the resilient Jordon Smith wouldn't lapse with speed as he sped onto the circuit of Lucas Oil Stadium. After practicing a multitude of starts on the opening straightaway, his laps that followed were extraordinary and had many in the crowd pointing in his direction. Landing with authority as he returned to the ground from mid-air, there was a certain emphasis on entrance speed (to all facets of the raceway) that was different from many others in the field. And that would carry into his heat race as well, where he battled immediately with Chris Blose for first. Leaping from the step-on/step-off obstacles on the first circuit, a quick stab of the clutch would accompany a riveting sequence of sweeping through the corners that followed, all the while heading into the second circuit. Blose was a crafty veteran that was excelling on this smooth track; but Smith's charging speed couldn't be denied as he burst toward the finish line to begin lap three, leaping over the "SX" triple with authority. Blose would have no choice but to allow the Yamaha rider to the inside, as Smith pushed him to the outer edge of the track while setting his eyes on an open circuit ahead. And from that point forward, it was the Yamaha rider who couldn't be diverted from a spot in victory lane; leading every lap that followed, en route to a phenomenal heat race win! The main event wasn't long thereafter, and knowingly, he understood that Hunter Lawrence and Nate Thrasher were going to be difficult opponents to deal with. Yet he plunged into the fray with fearlessness anyway, hanging onto the handlebars with a fierce grip while quickly moving into third. Seeing both Lawrence and Thrasher ahead, his stance from the second lap (and onward) would stay. He and Nate were running a nearly identical pace to one another, keeping an eye on their fellow teammate throughout every lane that warranted peripheral vision to be engaged. Paralleled sections of the track, could exhibit their gap amongst one another, all the while Jordon set just behind the Tennessean with a steadied pace on his Yamaha 250F. With the track now almost unrecognizable, Smith would omit as many mistakes as possible while blasting through ruts; hanging onto the chassis with fortitude while surging past the fifteen-lap mark. And in the six circuits that remained, Jordon would do enough to reside third as the dust settled; walking away from Indianapolis with a significant finish, in his notable 2022 250cc East Coast run thus far.
