As thousands of fans flocked to the fence-line of the Fox Raceway perimeter, attendee's in the morning hours couldn't help but notice that of Triumph's Joey Savatgy and how fast he was flying around the Southern California circuit. Though areas of soil had seemingly become mud (in more than one facet of the racetrack), there appeared to be no shortage of determination being portrayed with his ambition to acquire a fast lap, for the gate choice that followed. Countless laps were accelerated through before exiting the raceway, and as the field was announced for the first moto of the afternoon, his focus seemed to rise exponentially. Waiting for the pin to unlatch, he shifted into gear and raced to the rather tight and acute first corner. The large step-up was next in line...and though jumping two and three bikes wide, he managed to clear the obstacles with precision while landing with the throttle pinned. Throughout the next few laps, the fight for the fourth place position was one of constant shuffle. Milliseconds were swayed on behalf of he and Honda's Chance Hymas (who was in fourth at the time, with Savatgy in fifth) as both were jousting among handlebars when diving into a multitude of inside pathways. And with teammate Jalek Swoll behind him, he had to deviate his line selection if he wanted to break away from the fellow Triumph rider, and appeared to on the final downhill sector before entering into the finish line area. This enabled the final six laps, as a means of establishing an even higher pace, at the expense of his opponents (slightly) slower(ed) output of speed. The combination of the two contrasts, ultimately played in his favor - and allowed a position of fifth to be garnered at the finish line...where he nearly overtook Honda's Hymas. But, the Idaho native would have to be given credit for the resiliency that was shown on his behalf. Categorized in fifth, Savatgy was set to prepare for the next moto. However, once there, a first-turn crash would deter him from the pinnacle of the leaderboard. Somehow managing to gather a standing of twenty-seventh, Savatgy attempted to strive for the pace of race leader (Haiden Deegan) despite being held amongst traffic. Joey set the idea of fear aside in order to launch over tabletops, doubles, and rollers alike at the height of fourth gear - proving that he was willing to ride at the highest of pace(s) in order to gain position. The choppiness of the terrain was beginning to become a factor that couldn't be ignored - with his chassis dancing upon entering high-speed corners, and when sprinting down the hillside. Regardless of how erratic his machine appeared from afar though, the athlete aboard the number seventeen machine always had control - which was reflected in the consistent margin he was pulling from athletes like Daxton Bennick behind him, in the final stages. The Yamaha opponent pursued him for well over ten minutes...but the resiliency of Savtagy, even when fatigue had begun to take its toll was an attribute that couldn't be toppled - equating to thirteenth at the finish line, for a well-respected score of ninth-place overall.
