Hoping to lengthen his points margin over the rest of the field, Jett Lawrence was itching to begin competition as the round of Philadelphia came to fruition. Jett was quick in practice, but seemed a bit overzealous at times with uncharacteristic mistakes being portrayed on his behalf...which actually carried into the opening heat race of the afternoon, where Lawrence crashed within the first corner! Having to remount the motorcycle and immediately begin his march forward, he swept through the pack while trying to avoid riders crashing. Athletes such as Shane McElrath had close-calls per se, directly in front of him...but as moments passed, Lawrence appeared to rekindle a composed mentality while sprinting around the racetrack. Eventually passing a number of opponents, including Adam Cianciraulo in the final stages, Lawrence would climb to fourth as the checkered flag was thrown - exiting the raceway with a bit of frustration, though eager for redemption in the main event to come. Once locked-into the gate in which he chose, Jett knew a precise clutch release and jump from the line was paramount if he wanted to climb to the first-place position. Though initially, the Yamaha tandem would seem to have him covered when entering into turn one...but his exit would topple all and have him earning the top spot on the leaderboard. Swift maneuvering enabled Lawrence to catapult to the front of the pack, somehow weaving into first place while he was pursued by both Webb and Tomac. The pressure didn't seem to be getting to the Australian athlete, as the top three presented a blistering pace...but he was steady atop the pinnacle. He embraced the Philadelphia crowd, mixing his line selection extremely well with a combination of carving through the sand, and floating from inside to outside with effortless momentum. Though Chase Sexton was beginning to make a slight run of sorts in the final moments, Lawrence wasn't rattled by anything while locked-in behind the handlebars of his Honda. His charging speed amongst the ruts and corner thereafter was paramount, flying through the white flag while sweeping into the berm that followed with a ruthless roost that was projectile(d) for dozens of feet. Those in the stands would applaud, and as he jumped over both triples, along with the longest rhythm lane with incredible style, the winning narrative was set to be completed only seconds thereafter. With Cooper Webb unfortunately falling in the final moments, Lawrence took the win, and stretched the gap over the Yamaha rider significantly as all ceased in Pennsylvania.
