Honda's Jett Lawrence was hoping to rebound after the Triple Crown event in St. Louis, where the Australian athlete was an unfortunate recipient of an aggressive racing incident - nearly knocking him out of contention for the final moto of competition in Missouri. Luckily, he avoided injury while maintaining the points lead, and presented his typical array of notable lap-times while flying through practice in the state of Massachusetts. Once through qualification, he raced into action for that of heat two, where his starting sequence and completion of the first lap equated to a standing of second (after making a quick move on Kawasaki's Jason Anderson). He was unbelievable when mastering the ruts of the Northeastern circuit, flowing through the grooves with fluidity that couldn't be replicated by the competition. His entrance speed when approaching both, corners and the whoop section, was paramount - and aided his advancement toward Cooper Webb (who led). He proceeded to launch the triple-triple line (that Eli Tomac had conducted in the heat before) in order to try and nullify the gap between he and the North Carolina native - just before the finish line, but Webb, would even have an answer for that. Finally, with under two laps to go, Lawrence took the lead - running Webb a bit wide in the corner after the "SX" triple, before bombarding his way through the whoops and breaking away from the field. Ultimately taking the win, his sights were then set on the main event.Understanding the implications that were coupled with this stage of the championship, Lawrence commanded authority through the opening stages of the main event narrative. Though his speed would be thwarted after a lackluster start, where the Honda athlete was outside of the top-ten (hovering near twelfth and thirteenth); and somehow, managing to find a standing that was just behind Eli Tomac, even after the Yamaha rider had fallen! He was not showcasing his typical urgency - until around the halfway point, where he would pass his brother, Shane McElrath, Justin Barcia, and Justin Hil...trailing Eli Tomac the entire time. The pass on the number three would be made though, when cresting the anthill; with just under nine minutes to go. Now fifth, a few close-calls had the crowd rising to their feet...but Lawrence remained engaged. The top-three (consisting of Webb, Roczen, and Sexton) were now too far out front to truly be caught...therefore in order to amass as many points as possible, his greatest goal to conquer would be that of Jason Anderson. With persistence, the gap between the two rivals shrunk - and substantially. Through the last two laps, the margin was extremely thin...which led to a true "last corner effort" being presented by Lawrence; where he forced Anderson to the outside, but the New Mexico native wouldn't quit, and without exaggeration, launched the finish-line double with all of the power the Kawasaki engine could generate! This, forced into Lawrence to fifth, by only milliseconds - leaving he and Cooper Webb tied, for the next round in Nashville.
