JETT LAWRENCE | GRIT-228 | 450MX
Honda's Jett Lawrence would continue on a streak of excellency as the round of Washougal came to fruition. Though not necessarily his strongest of tracks (in regard to overall winning accumulation in the past), the world renowned talent that the Australian was set to display would be second-to-none as practice began in the early morning hours. His exceptional prowess would lead him to capturing the pole position before all was said and done, arriving to the gate of moto number-one with confidence prior to the pin(s) unlatching. Once his clutch was released shortly thereafter, Lawrence would burst into the first turn and exit the initial left-handed sweeper just behind Dylan Ferrandis - with the Yamaha rider presenting his entire arsenal of speed, in order to keep Lawrence at bay. However, as the narrative had unfolded in race's past, Jett would manage to seek and find a way around the French rider...as they jumped overtop of the summit on "Horsepower Hill," where the Honda athlete displayed an excellent maneuver of jumping from outside to inside which carried immense rolling speed over the roller immediately thereafter. Ferrandis was startled, but Lawrence now had an open track at his disposal on the third lap of competition. That equated to trouble for much of the competition, where Jett's speed couldn't be diverted as he passed the halfway point, and twenty-minute markers...although Chase Sexton was attempting to race to the rear wheel at the best of his abilities. There were times, when it seemed as if the number twenty-three possessed the necessary momentum to overtake the Australian rider; but there was simply no stopping the red-plate holder, as he continued on his streak of perfection. And with a nearly eight-second gap arising as he powered across the finish-line, Lawrence would claim an undeniable moto victory - setting the stage for the second moto thereafter. For this occasion, another member of the competition would immediately attempt to contest and break the streak of the number eighteen...which was that of Aaron Plessinger. And it seemed as if Plessinger had a surplus of momentum, even after the initial gate malfunction which caused a red-flag restart to be conducted. But even with all of those variables, there wasn't anything that could stand in Lawrence's way, after the KTM rider would lead for the first three laps of competition. It was on the fourth circuit when Lawrence's free-flowing and smooth style seemingly passed by the Ohio native with ease, just before the finish-line with an excellent charging sequence on behalf of the Honda rider. He would burst into a trajectory that forced Plessinger to stop amid the sweeping bowl turns...creating an undeniable pathway to the front of the field, in which Lawrence forcefully obtained! Now into the lead, it was Chase Sexton (again) who quickly infiltrated second and attempted to rival the Australian. And through the mid-point(s) of the moto, it was the Illinois resident who would actually close the gap beneath a two-second indicator - appearing as if he had the momentum to try and attempt a definitive pass! However, the fortitude of Lawrence was something that couldn't be broken...which led to Sexton eventually making a mistake in the final laps of competition, and seemingly handing over the lead to red-plate holder once and for all! Taking the checkered flag not long thereafter, Jett Lawrence's perfect streak of moto victories would continue - claiming a dominant overall in Washougal, Washington, for round eight of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
