Racing with a point to prove within the demanding 450cc SX Championship, New Mexico's Jason Anderson would approach the racetrack in Massachusetts with a game-plan to succeed. Upon rolling onto the muddy raceway for Saturday afternoon's practice sessions, the Kawasaki rider executed line choices and rhythm throughout the race course with the utmost proficiency. His surrounding team would applaud as all concluded prior to embarking on heat two where the thirty-second board went sideways and the number twenty-one excelled to a standing of fourth (after battling with Chase Sexton). Throughout the opening three minutes, everyone in the field would attempt to aim for race leader, Cooper Webb. Though Anderson was riding at an accomplished pace at his own behalf, and fluidly leaping through the multitude of triples in the longest rhythm lane. The furthest outside ruts, in the combination of jumps before the finish-line, were already becoming so deep, that kickers were making more of a knuckle at the top of the lip rather than a smooth take-off...yet even with the unforeseen variables arising Anderson would flourish. With two circuits to go, and then the white flag, he remained prominent within the fourth-place designation...residing here as all concluded for this divisional round. Once into the finalé, the first lap (or two) was rather frantic with athletes trying to make moves. Chase Sexton, Cooper Webb, and Ken Roczen, were in a constant pursuit of higher speeds...which resulted in the entire pack being forced to rise to an even higher level than what was though of in practice and the heat race(s) prior. Balance beams (i.e. ruts) were now trenched in every facet of the racetrack - creating a slalom-type format where opponents weaved from right to left (and vice versa) in order to find the most efficient pathway. He was unfazed by the presence of Sexton behind him (after Anderson maintained third, initially) - with the KTM rider (i.e. Sexton) remaining steadfast in the tightest areas of track, nearly bumping into his rear wheel on occasion! The Illinois native would make his way around shortly thereafter, but from the third circuit onward...Anderson was in a territory all by himself. He had broken away from Justin HIll, but couldn't seem to generate the speed(s) necessary to break into the top-three. All alone, he couldn't be come too complacent with the speed(s) he was putting forth...as Jett Lawrence was rapidly closing-in near the checkered flag! In all-out dash to the finish, with roughly two circuits to go, Lawrence darted forward - leading to a climactic point in the corner before the finish-line, where the Australian seemed to have the pass made! However, Anderson's heroic effort (via never letting off the throttle) had him catapulting on the far outside! Somehow managing to reside fourth, by a mere fender!
