The high stakes format of this East and West Coast showdown were evident as riders stormed onto the track for practice. As representatives of each division appeared eager to put forth daunting lap-times - hoping to cast doubt into the minds of their rivals, all the while ascending to the top of the leaderboard with confidence. Through all facets of the track Jalek Swoll seemed to flourish with speed that was next level. Sweeping through the countless flattened corners, his ability to garner traction as the track became drier was indicative of what was to come for the night show. Once loaded into the starting grid for the race that followed, Swoll accelerated from the grates and into corner number one with ambition. The clashing of handlebars, and shroud plastics ensued while he and Pierce Brown would go foot-peg to foot-peg amongst a multitude of minutes while striving for the leading position. Over the finish line on lap three, he would scrub his Triumph chassis with authority before landing and excelling into the corners thereafter. With little room for error, he sought to find portions of traction and powder in order for his machine to turn. The pivoting and swift cutting he was showcasing was a deterrent (at times), for the GasGas rider behind him to try and make a move forward...but the battle would last through the three-quarter mark and into the final leg of the moto. Ultimately, as the checkered flag was thrown, he would garner a standing of fourth before generating a game-plan in the finalé of the SX season. Once there, the determination of every athlete in the field couldn't have been higher. Throughout the first four laps, there was little room for error - and the smallest of ruts and edges were a platform for riders to gain time, with only milliseconds in every segment being the means of improvement. Over the "SX" triple and through the switchback thereafter, his initial pair of inside lines would slowly fade further outside as the main event went on, and an adequate gap over opponents Phil Nicoletti and Max Anstie would come to fruition. Speeding across the straightaway thereafter, he glanced to his left on occasion to see that of the aforementioned Yamaha rider (i.e. Nicoletti) pursuing him...all the while, he was using the athlete from New York as a means to go even faster. The game of cat and mouse was evident, but he wasn't going to stop pursuing faster lap-times as ninth place seemed to be attainable through the thirteenth minute. And as all eventually concluded in the state of Utah, it was Florida's Swoll, who garnered ninth, respectively.
