JALEK SWOLL - GRIT 234 250SMX
September 27, 2023 · Jalek Swoll

JALEK SWOLL | GRIT-234 | 250 SMX
With Honda's Hunter Lawrence departing from the main event sequence due to an injury sustained in practice, there would be a consensus amongst many in the crowd that an "open position" of sorts would be up for grabs within the top-ten of the 250cc SMX division...which was something that many aspired over. However, there were few that were willing to outwork Husqvarna's Jalek Swoll especially as he sped through the racecourse in qualification. He would differ his options through the sand section depending on availability amongst other riders, which gave him a multitude of tools to work with when departing from the starting grid for the first main event of the evening. Capturing the hole-shot designation before being passed by a storm of riders over the "SX" triple (where multiple collisions nearly occurred), he would gather third at the end of the first lap of action. As he flew through multiple rhythm sections with his vision on finding the most efficient of lines in the upcoming corners, there was a persistent rev that could be felt from an opposing force in his rearview...with that of Yamaha's Jordon Smithbeing within bike lengths while seeking to strike anytime. Swollhad to be mindful of drifting too wide when leaping into the hip jump beneath the tunnel, as a line that was "too far" outside would seemingly leave a window of opportunity for his opponent to dash through! Though being passed by multiple opponents, Swoll remained focused on finishing with his strongest efforts...where his race-craft was at its highest as the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth minute(s) came to fruition - as riders were now into a state of their own with the checkered flag in mind. Though the rhythm lane after the sand section, and the wall jump before the finish-line were now cupped with an abrupt transition, he would eventually navigate his way through the deteriorating terrain to accrue a tremendous sixth-place accoladeat the final stripe. For moto-two, his way of deciphering the movement of the competition would be paramount as inside lanes were jammed with traffic - and despite the heartbeat(s) of all in the field nearing maximum exertion levels, he somehow remained calm when flying over the largest mounds in the sand section! Minutes passed, and he continued to see lines with a vigilant standpoint - blending creativity and marksmanship while rallying toward the twenty-minute mark. Receiving cues from his mechanic that first moto standout's Tom Vialle and Jordon Smith were opponents that pursued him, there was ultimately little that could deter him from garnering eighth (with a now added sense of motivation)as engines ceased. And as all was finalized for the final round of the SMX playoff, it would be Florida's Swollwho claimed eighth (in the moto) for a notable eighth-place overall in the final standing(s) as well - building confidence and momentum, for the upcoming 2024 "SX" season.
