JALEK SWOLL | GRIT-224 | 250MX
Winning the High Point National just a few years ago, Florida's Jalek Swoll would possess an abundance of confidence as action began in Mount Morris on Saturday. He knew he could return to the front of the pack, and by all means, after an extraordinary practice effort would he burst from the gate(s) and onto the initial uphill with immense power. Contending for the lead while rounding the first lap in third place (behind teammate RJ Hampshire and Yamaha's Haiden Deegan), Swoll would hang onto the bronze-medal distinction for quite sometime - seemingly all alone in the position, while he distance himself from the rest of the top five. Though Hampshire and Deegan would extend their lead to a notable margin, it would be the number thirty-eight who combated and adapted to the ever-changing track while showcasing phenomenal lap-times. He would hold third-place honors through lap twelve, until the field embarked on the thirteenth circuit when he would be passed by the red-plate holder, Hunter Lawrence. Though he attempted to mimic the lines of the Australian competitor until the checkered flag was thrown; which was an outstanding tactic to portray, while keeping Ryder DiFrancesco at bay, en route to fourth on the final leaderboard. He hoped to carry that momentum into the first laps of competition in the next round, but an unfortunate pile-up with he and RJ Hampshire (in turn two) would have the two Husqvarna's interlocked (on the ground) while rest of the field blitzed by! He was only able to gather twenty-seventh when passing the green flag shortly thereafter, and then proceeded to engage in an outpouring of speed that all in attendance had to recognize. Shifting from fourth to fifth gear amongst monstrous downhills and rutted straightaways, his fearlessness on the Husqvarna machine was an attribute that couldn't be forged. Around the halfway point, he would work his way around that of Talon Hawkins and Max Vohland; while seeking to overtake Caden Braswell before the final ten minutes of action concluded. He would then power amongst a multitude of outside lines where the ruts spanned immeasurable lengths, keeping his inside foot hovering above the ground while he relentlessly twisted the throttle and ultimately made the pass on the GasGas rider. And as all was said in done in "PA," it was Swoll who fought through adversity to clench eleventh for the moto - and eighth overall in the record book(s).
