Australia's Hunter Lawrence remained in the fight for this 450cc MX Championship. He was calculated, and calm under pressure - knowing that Washougal was a new platform to work from, as the series moved into the Pacific Northwest. Following a thorough practice effort, Lawrence was determined to make a statement for moto-one - and he appeared to sustain a third-place standing as he crested the green-flag obstacle... yet Lawrence was quickly overtaken by a hard-charging, Jason Anderson. Anderson wasn't wasting any time, while Lawrence looked a bit more delayed, in regard to his sense of determination on the motorcycle. Now fourth, he resided here through the ten-minute mark...but his steady pursuit of the New Mexico native, eventually enabled him to a pathway around the Kawasaki rider to claim third. Second was then secured, when overtaking Justin Cooper just before the eighteen-minute mark...as they crested Horsepower Hill. However, an unfortunate mistake then occurred for the Australian - in the corner before the finish line, which sent Lawrence tucking the front-end and falling to the ground, descending to the fifth-place position. His ability to claw forward would be paramount if he wanted to regain any standing(s) that he had lost, though the pack of riders that were now ahead, weren't slowing down when nearing the finish-line. Thus, the number ninety-six machine was finalized in an eventual standing of fifth, before advancing to moto two. His start for the following was incredible, and he claimed the initial lead...until Jason Anderson would blitz by him, just after Horsepower Hill! It was the initial undertaking of the obstacle, but the Australian quickly jumped into the runner-up standing while trying to mimic the pace of the New Mexico native. However, a valiant charge from Chase Sexton couldn't be denied - and led to a climactic point, where Sexton soared from the elevated tree area on lap five...out-charging per se, the Australian when speeding into a tight corner thereafter. He (Lawrence) was at that point, third, and looking to march ahead toward Jason Anderson. Though Aaron Plessinger was quick to enter the equation as well, hounding the rear wheel of Lawrence...and the KTM athlete then made a pass stick (per se) just before the Monster Energy Triple jump - which resulted in Lawrence being deterred to fourth. Once there, it was crucial that he presented the ideas of attrition and fortitude through the conclusion of the sixteenth lap...and as the checkered flag was waved, it would be a fourth-place score (in the second moto) that helped him capture fourth (as well) in the final standings!
