The Australian was on the cusp of a championship run, and proceeded to roll onto the raceway in Massachusetts with authority, aboard his Honda machine. After gathering as much knowledge as possible (while setting a remarkable lap-time) in practice session(s), Hunter Lawrence was destined to thrive as gate(s) fell for moto one. The athlete aboard the number ninety-six machine was able to occupy second after drifting a bit to the outside in the opening corner, and his brother, Jett, had simultaneously snuck to the inside to take the lead. Now occupying the runner-up position, the number ninety-six was steadfast in his pursuit of the athlete aboard the number one machine. But Jett was on a slightly higher level for this particular occasion, and managed to steadily pull away, little by little, over Hunter as the halfway point arose. What was once a three-second gap, amplified to a five-second gap, and so on...where an eight-second margin was being presented when the two lap board came to fruition. It was rather uneventful for the older of the two Lawrence brothers, which wasn't necessarily bad...but the second-place position he (Hunter eventually claimed) was certainly a feat he wanted to improve upon for the latter round of racing. Claiming second place off of the start for moto two, he would have quite the difficult time to try and keep Chase Sexton at bay. However, around halfway through the opening lap, Lawrence would be surpassed by the Illinois native. But Hunter didn't seem to care for the pass that was made by Sexton, and retaliated with an assertive advancement (to claim second) just after the mechanic's area, on the second circuit. And then on the third lap, Hunter once more would pass Jett (for the lead) in the same spot...just after the initial anthill on the track layout! He was sensational when scurrying up the gradual hill, and maintained that sense of speed for quite a while. He and Jett were playing a bit of, cat and mouse among themselves - towing each other for certain portions of the moto, while also gapping the fellow family member when the time called for it. This narrative would be sustained through the twenty-minute mark of the moto....until a few mistakes were made by the athlete aboard the number ninety-six machine. Nearly going off of the track on multiple occasions, an eventual pass was made by Jett in a left-handed corner with eight minutes remaining on the clock. He (Hunter) had no choice but to obligé and relinquished the lead to Jett at that point. However, Chase Sexton would make an eventual pass as well - in the corner after the finish line, with around five minutes remaining on the clock! It appeared as if Hunter were now attempting to salvage the performance, via the third-place position. He would do so, and with the totality of his moto scores (i.e. two-three) his third overall in the record book, kept him well within the championship fight.
