Australia's Hunter Lawrence had quickly infiltrated the top-ten of the 450cc SX rankings, and was quick to rival the top of the division in recent rounds. His prowess was ever-heightening, and he made sure to make a statement while stationed in Philadelphia on Saturday. After a solid showing in practice (where he contended for the pole position), Hunter sprinted into the realm of heat two. He and Kawasaki's Jason Anderson were immediately contesting one another, with the rivalry from previous rounds coming to fruition once more. He battled for the lead, and would stalk the rear wheel of the New Mexico native...looking for ways to infiltrate the presence of the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider. Anderson constantly refuted though, keeping the number ninety-six at bay for the duration of the eight-lap contest. In conclusion, Lawrence continued to excel en route to second place in the divisional round. Battling for the seventh-place position in the opening moments of the finalé, Lawrence was riding rather well while immersed within a pack of serious contenders. He and Justin Barcia were battling one another, with the New York veteran riding superb with a line of defense (while occupying sixth) and keeping Lawrence at bay. Hunter was relentless however, and maintained focus while somehow staying right in the line of fire from that of the New York native. The battle between he and Barcia was intense, with both athletes swapping positions while Lawrence would nearly run him off of the track when they neared the finish line! However, Justin Barcia's retaliation (via hard-charging) was the ultimate declaration of advancement, and pushed Lawrence into a position that trailed him. Only a few laps were remaining as the dust settled on their duel, but Lawrence refused to give-in while striving for the position of Barcia, and simultaneously defended his standing from that of Malcolm Stewart and Dylan Ferrandis. Through the twenty-third lap, the seventh-place position was sustained...but a valiant effort by both, former 250cc champions who trailed (i.e. Stewart and Ferrandis) was suited forth. Crossing the checkered flag in seventh, Lawrence's quest for a top-five overall standing was admirable - given how hard he and Barcia contested one another. He showed that there was zero hesitancy between he and established veterans, steadily gaining speed, strength (and confidence) as the 2024 Monster Energy Supercross Series nears completion.
