HUNTER LAWRENCE | GRIT-237 | 450 SX
The newfound 450cc competitor would once again aspire to gain experience while competing in San Diego. Though Hunter Lawrence had been riding a wave of emotions so to speak thus far in the series, he undoubtedly possessed top-tier speed and talent, and had shown that on countless occasions prior to the inception of the third round. As only one practice session was eventually called for all in the SX itinerary, Lawrence proceeded to garner a standing of seventh before exiting the raceway. This translated to a notable gate choice in heat two, where he combatted the likes of Dylan Ferrandis, Aaron Plessinger, and Ken Roczen in the early going. As riders were attempting to establish a pace, Lawrence was seeking the most efficient lines on the course - though many grooves were rather erratic and not necessarily linear. He did his best, despite the aforementioned competitors storming to the front of the field, while he and Chase Sexton would quarrel over one of the last positions on the leaderboard. Though being passed by the KTM rider, Lawrence knew that the highest task of them all was to generate a main event transferring position...which, after seven laps of strenuous competition, he followed the path of the rider who sported the number one - taking eighth, while moving to the main event. Once into the finalé, the number ninety-six was doing his best to try and obtain clear vision. The mud on this course was a bit different from last weeks, with the base being a considerably more hard-packed...which created a loss of traction for many in the field. Though Lawrence proceeded to focus on throttle control as much as possible, delicately applying the brakes when easing into the first corner and turns thereafter. Passing through the first quarter, and then halfway point of the moto, he would move forward from thirteenth and into the top ten by the third circuit. It was a matter of attrition at that point, where he could sense KTM's Chase Sexton approaching rather quickly, while seeing Dylan Ferrandis in the foreground. Leaping onto the start straightaway time and time again, he was explosive when surging from the bottom(s) of most obstacles -doing everything possible to gain time, while seeing the checkered flag wave in the distance. Eventually finalized in a very well-respected seventh place position, Lawrence was an athlete who was on the move, in the 450SX championship.
