HUNTER LAWRENCE | GRIT-216 | SX 250
Continuing to ascend closer to claiming a championship, Hunter Lawrence would emerge from time(d) trials in practice appearing as though he would contend for victory as the checkered flag was set to wave in the early evening hours of Saturday. Lawrence had adapted to the varying surfaces of Atlanta instantly, which propelled him to the top of the leaderboard where riders like Jo Shimoda and Haiden Deegan would trail. Once established within the pinnacle, he would eye the stage of heat one to claim his main event bid. Gate(s) would fall and his Honda would dash into turn number one, emerging near third prior to embarking on a series of stellar sequences not long thereafter. His scrubbing maneuvering (over the initial step-on/step-off) would be spectacular; wowing the fans (and even members of rivaled teams) as he attempted to establish a flow that couldn't be thwarted. His Honda would absolutely blister the raceway in the slightly diagonal tapered section of rollers (that were not long after the sand section); where his timing would be composed of a series of bounces and manual(s) that portrayed his 250cc machine skipping through the raceway with effortless technique. This would lead to him catching the rear wheel of Tom Vialle, whom he'd pass with a daring inside pathway in the second of two whoop sections, with just under three minutes remaining on the clock. Not long thereafter, would Lawrence claim the lead, just after the tunnel jump as Haiden Deegan's crash would seemingly hand the winning designation over to the Australian. And from that point forward, there was little that could disrupt the red-plate holder, as he made his way through the final stages to claim yet another impressive victory! The main event would begin with an immediate fight for the lead, as he and Haiden Deegan would contest one another past the green flag and into the corner just prior to the tunnel jump. Lawrence would slam the door shut on the Yamaha rider however, after trailing just moments before, and take the lead with authority. His championship-level performance would almost be over prior to it beginning, however, with a disastrous miscalculation occurring in the rhythm lane just after the mechanic's area! Nearly going over the bars after a severe "case" to initial the array of obstacles, Lawrence would have to fly off the race track, but luckily stayed atop the frame to only lose one position to the number 238. The two would feud over the lead as Deegan put up quite the fight in order to combat the offense that Lawrence was displaying; but with roughly eleven minutes remaining on the clock. Hunter would have no choice but to storm around the outside in the corner that initiated the mechanic's area. Deegan's rebuttal in the sections to follow was of no avail, as the red-plate holder would take advantage of a clear racetrack while engaging in a series of astounding lap-times. Pushing past the halfway point with aggression, Lawrence paid no attention to any opponent behind him, solely focusing on what was ahead as his mechanic continued to encourage him. And although uneventful, the exhilarating performance that Hunter displayed would lead to a number of laps being led; ultimately being declared winner as he stormed past the checkered flag!
