HUNTER LAWRENCE | GRIT-212 | SX 250
Returning to the racetrack after an incredible performance in Daytona, Honda's Hunter Lawerence understood that he must continue his streak of excellency while stationed in Indiana. The Australian rider would now be based in Florida, where midwest conditions weren't necessarily encountered on a day-to-day basis; however, his experience on the MXGP circuit would be paramount in scenarios like this, which led to him hovering near the top of the leaderboard (for qualification) throughout the afternoon. Shortly thereafter, it was time for him to acquire an optimal gate choice for the main event, via action in heat two. Once here, he would storm through the first lap of action with a blistering pace, pummeling through the whoops with confidence that rippled into other areas of the track as well. He quickly made his way around Tom Vialle while eyeing Max Anstie who was exhibiting a notable pace at the front of the pack. But Hunter Lawrence was stealth-like in his maneuvering, steadily gaining time on the British opponent as they neared the halfway point. His ability to soak-up air time and keep the Honda motorcycle close to the ground was unquestionable, and allowed him to move to the inside, over the "SX" triple with three minutes remaining on the clock. Anstie would have to obligé and allow the Australian to pass him on the left side, which Lawrence did with authority. Now into the lead and beginning to distance himself away, an unbeknownst red-flag would bring action to a halt. With an injured rider on the track unfortunately forcing the riders to restart in a single-file manner, Lawrence would await the designation to resume action on behalf the referee. Once he threw his green flag into the air, Hunter proceeded to return to exhibiting a dominant pace; focused on the checkered flag and nothing else. And as he led through the final circuit, his victory would be a catalyst for a strong gate choice in the main event that followed. Lawrence's start to the finalé was prolific, where he pushed his Honda into a front-running standing that couldn't be toppled. Regardless of who was behind him, Lawrence would reiterate his dominance with the red-plate; blasting through every sector of the course with his eyes set on the checkered flag at the end. Generating around a five-second gap (at times) while Nate Thrasher moved into second, this race would purely be managed at Lawrence's will. From whoops, to corners, to funky rhythm lanes, Hunter would be flawless though it all; which led to him leading all twenty-one laps, and proved as to why many consider him a championship favorite! Taking the victory in style, he would now be onto Detroit to further his points lead over his fellow 250cc combatants.
