HARRI KULLAS | GRIT-229 | 450MX
With numerous current MXGP riders traveling from overseas to compete in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this year, the action on the racetrack had begun to rise with intensity as each round had passed - and Unadilla was no different. Athletes like Estonia's Harri Kullas would proceed onto the course in New York with confidence that couldn't be forged, accumulating countless successful qualifying positions prior to embarking on the first moto. But there were few who could've predicted the amount of "fight" and willingness to push the envelope that Kullas possessed, as the Yamaha rider would nearly pull the hole-shot over Honda's Jett Lawrence! He would do his best to suppress the speed of the Australian, but the pace of the red-plate holder was too much while Kullas eventually gathered a position of sixth as the green flag waved. His pace throughout the opening laps was anything but mediocre, as he seemed to dismiss the notion of the story that MXGP riders were as intense in the opening portions of their races...with Kullas flying from groove to groove in New York, as if he'd ridden this thousands of times! Battling with both ClubMX Yamaha riders (i.e. Garrett Marchbanks and Phil Nicoletti), Kullas would find a prominent flow within seventh as matters neared toward the checkered flag...and as the dust settled on the first round of racing, it would be the Estoninan who gathered the aforementioned position prior to beginning his second trek of the afternoon. Once more, would Kullas engage in a starting sequence that nearly overtook Jett Lawrence for the hole-shot designation; displaying excellent reaction time while remaining in the top-five for the rest of the green flag lap. Though countless other braking bumps and craters had now formed into every corner entry on the circuit, Kullas was finding a way to make his Yamaha thrive within the soil of New Berlin. He was on pace with Dylan Ferrandis and Aaron Plessinger for quite sometime, and even with the French native beginning to pull away, Kullas would enact a sense of speed that was on par with the KTM rider from Ohio. The velocities shown by Kullas in the corner(s) near the start straight, enabled him to catch Florida's Adam Cianciarulo (a slight bit) in the final moments of competition...but the Kawasaki would ultimately evade. This would position Kullas in seventh (once again), yet his consistency throughout the two moto's ultimately registered him sixth overall, once and for all.
