With the championship on his mind, Yamaha's Haiden Deegan appeared eager and confident to sustain the points lead through the round of racing at Budds Creek. Though practice would be a bit muddy due to precipitation that had fallen, the native Californian continued to flourish through the final flag...earning a notable gate choice prior to beginning the opening portion of moto's. As the gate(s) fell, the red-plate holder would surge into the opening turn with a phenomenal jump from the gate...occupying the furthest inside spot, and dictating where the pack would travel to as they passed the finish line jump. His speed was next level, and it seemed as though he emphasized extending the gap over the rest of his opponents, to a point that was insurmountable. Deegan was relentless when twisting the throttle of his Yamaha machine, with his gap amplifying to around twenty-five seconds over opponents like Honda's Chance Hymas, Kawasaki's Levi Kitchen, and KTM's Tom Vialle! He seemed to recognize the fastest lines in each section and move forward with confidence as the checkered flag neared. All seemed to be well, until there were two laps to go, and a miscue atop the hill furthest from the starting gate (within a switchback/split-berm lane) would result in Deegan falling to his right side! However his lead was large enough that he had immense time to spare, and returned to the competitive pace with well over twelve-seconds between he and Chance Hymas. Ultimately taking the win, the championship was then his, via the brilliant gold-medal performance! The second moto would embody a multitude of emotions for the Yamaha athlete, where the championship had already been won, though his competitiveness still strove for the highest of individual feats. He began the trek to the finish line around the fourteenth-place position, but was having a difficult time making passes on various athletes, including teammate Nicholas Romano. Once into the tenth-place spot, he would battle alongside opponents like Garrett Marchbanks and Ty Masterpool...though there was really no need for Deegan to advance any higher with the championship already clinched. He seemed to embrace the final moments of the latter race while hearing cheers from the crowd - residing tenth when nearing the checkered flag. As he crossed the finish line, to receive both the title and third-place overall honors, the feeling from he and his supporting cast could hardly be described. The hard work and effort throughout the entirety of his career had now culminated into, being crowned as the 2024 250MX AMA Pro Motocross Champion!
