HAIDEN DEEGAN - GRIT 242 250SX
May 18, 2024 · Haiden Deegan

GRIT-242 | 250 SX
After capturing his first win of the 2024 series last week, Yamaha's Haiden Deegan would strive to excel amongst the rugged grounds of Daytona Speedway. This circuit was one-of-a-kind, and force the Californian to use the entirety of his skillset while attempting to climb to the front of the pack...throughout practice, the number thirty-eight was sensational amongst the higher speed areas - proving that he could tap into his outdoor repertoire of attributes per se, and engage in velocities that were accompanied with fourth gear amongst the transmission. However, he would unfortunately be involved in one of the roughest crashes imaginable, over the "SX" triple before the finish-line...appearing to cross-rut and lose traction, while endo-ing from the lip! Subsequently having to fly over the bars, he somehow managed to land upon the downslope of the landing, off the motorcycle, relatively unscathed...signaling to the crowd that he was healthy before departing to the heat race. He was registered in third after the first full lap of competition, battling with Cameron McAdoo though the Kawasaki eventually definitively made his way in front of him. The veteran, Jeremy Martin, was just ahead as the second lap was completed...but Deegan would ultimately pressure the fellow Yamaha rider into a mistake and claim second just before the white flag appeared. Eventually finalized in the runner-up position, the Californian was eager to claim as many points as possible for the main event. The number thirty-eight machine completed the first full lap of the finalé in fourth, while battling amongst heavy fire from Kawasaki's Seth Hammaker. The Pennsylvanian was a knowledgable veteran, and would defend the array of offensive counters that were put forth by Deegan as the third, fourth, and fifth laps were presented. Pierce Brown (who was fifth) was constantly pressuring the rear wheel of the Star Racing Yamaha rider, keeping Deegan aware of where the Utah native stood as they navigated through the troublesome whoop section. Lines had been carved from beginning to end, and it wasn't as if they were perfectly patterned and cut straight through the mogul pad...but Deegan managed to maintain optimal balance while keeping the GasGas opponent at bay. Time was running out for the number thirty-eight to advance to the podium, but with the big picture in mind, he remained aware of the championship and amassing as many points as possible...though a near crash with just over five minutes on the clock, would showcase his "bike skills" aboard the Yamaha YZ250F - conducting a three-sixty maneuver after running into a tuff-block, and spinning upon his right leg with an accompanying throttle twist, staying within the fourth-place position with the finish around the corner! As the checkered flag waved soon thereafter, a veteran-like performance was constructed by Deegan in totality - earning fourth place at this historic Daytona venue.
