HAIDEN DEEGAN | GRIT-216 | SX 250
The rookie sensation, Haiden Deegan, once more would proclaim his world-renowned talent amid his first adventure in competing at Atlanta Motor Speedway. These larger-layout tracks were new to many in the field, but especially Deegan who'd only ridden a few professional events thus far in his racing career! But you couldn't tell that the number 238 machine was "fresh on the scene" when watching him power through practice, leaping over the triple-quad sequence (just after the tunnel jump) with finesse and style that even those in the 450cc division had trouble replicating! Every segment of the course would be executed with precision, prior to moving into the first heat race. As the thirty-second board was thrown sideways, it would be Deegan who contended for the first-place position instantly. Deegan was sensational as he powered beneath the tunnel jump, wheel-tapping amongst the rollers with Tom Vialle and Hunter Lawrence behind him. The number 238 would be sensational in the lead, choreographing bold lines with excellent speed before an unfortunate miscue with just under three minutes remaining on the clock - where it appeared an error occurred via shifting the transmission, on the initial step-on/step-off. Unfortunately he would crash off track, though luckily remaining unscathed before remounting and doing his best to finish within the top-five. Deegan was executing at a phenomenal trajectory, and made sure to fight for every position, even as Jo Shimoda closed in at a fast rate! Nearly being clipped by the Kawasaki rider just before the checkered flag, Deegan would hold onto fourth before exiting the raceway. His aggression had to be recognized by those who opposed him, grabbing an initial lead before being shoved to the outside via a daring pass on behalf of Hunter Lawrence (on the face of the tunnel-jump) just seconds after the race began. Deegan wasn't going down without a fight though, and proceeded to take advantage of a late first lap mistake (by Lawrence) and as a result, claimed the lead! Holding the first-place designation until roughly eleven minutes remained on the clock, his act of defense while keeping the red-plate holder at bay, would be undoubtedly admirable. Deegan was passed in the mechanic's area, cresting the inside roller while Lawrence went around the outside, though he wasn't discouraged; and proceeded to hang onto the runner-up position. This would last until roughly six and a half minutes had transpired, when Jordon Smith would demonstrate an output of speed that couldn't be ignored; and would make his way around in the corner just after the finish-line. Smith would close the window on the front-end of Deegan prior to climbing atop the face of the tunnel-jump, pushing Deegan to third. And once here, Deegan would follow behind his elder teammate for the duration of the moto, hitting his lines with precision while ultimately charging to the finish-line for a phenomenal third-place overall!
