GUILLEM FARRES | GRIT-221 | SX 250
Though a relative newcomer to the AMA circuit, Spain's Guillem Farres felt as if he could generate immense success in this outdoor championship - beginning with action at Fox Raceway on this late May weekend. His Yamaha 250F machine had been fine-tuned to the highest regard, and would sound immaculate as he sped onto the raceway for practice. Clicking into fourth and fifth gear as he entered onto the start straightaway time and time again, there was little that could stop him as he descended into the corners that followed; only lightly dragging both, the front and rear brake before powering into the next facet of raceway. This pattern continued into moto one as well, where he could initially be found around the sixteenth position yet was constantly working for ways to advance forward. Immediately, he and teammate Jordon Smith would nearly be interlocked when weaving through the infield, swapping from outside to inside in order to divert from one another and keep their vision clear. The chassis would compress as he leapt atop the Monster Energy step-up, landing atop the plateau on the right side, and immediately jumping back into view where the majority of attendee's could see him. Farres was relentless when moving through the pack, passing riders each and every lap while seeming to engage in a furthered sense of stamina than anyone else around him could create. Regardless of teammates (like Levi Kitchen) or Kawasaki's Carson Mumford, Farres was pulling from them; as he was focused on nothing but the finish line as minutes continued to pass. He never settled, even as his Yamaha engine radiated with sweltering heat...but could finally subside from an outpouring of intensity when grasping the position of eighth when crossing the finish line. Moto number two was just around the corner, and he believed that he could be on pace with those in the top-three if a strong start was generated. He showcased zero hesitancy when cresting the largest double on the track, landing atop the downslope and charging into the left-handed corner that followed with esteem and confidence. But suddenly, Honda's Chance Hymas would appear in his immediate radius, as the newfound professional had significantly gained on him in the finish line segment and appeared to push him to a pace that was rather startling for Farres. But this was what he'd trained for, and when putting his nose to the grindstone, the rider from Spain would eventually prevail. He would pass Hymas back, all the while losing only one more position to his teammate Justin Cooper...which was astounding given the pace these guys were riding at! Eventually categorized in fifth (once and for all), his final overall of eighth would be superb prior to departing from Pala.
