GRIT 311 — SMX NEXT — 4th — Jesson Turner

The course in Pennsylvania, was set to appear closed to an old-school High Point National, rather than the typical Supercross-style landscape we were used to seeing! With extensive amounts of precipitation in the forecast, many, Yamaha's Jesson Turner Jr, knew that the circuit which was encountered in the afternoon sessions, was set to be far different than that of the course in the night show. Nevertheless, he stormed onto the track and would power past the mechanic's area as if he were in a "dash for cash" style format! From the opening laps, through the checkered flag of the each qualifying round, it was clear that Turner could contend at the front of the pack. Though the main event, was set to present a multitude of variables, that would be difficult to prepare for.

He and his mechanic, had prepared their motorcycle to the highest extent - though they knew, upon plunging into the wet surface of Philadelphia, that anything could happen. Nevertheless, the fearlessness of Turner Jr would be showcased as he battled through the hectic first lap. The track ahead of him was seemingly covered with competitors and their respective machines, therefore Jesson could only manage to acquire a thirteenth-place position (after being halted, by a competitor who had crashed on the face of a steep jump). From there, he vaulted forward — using unorthodox lines a as a means of passing, with an urgency that was difficult to describe! He would roll across various singles and take-off ramps on the inside, making block passes work, and nullifying the advancements of many other opponents. He would secure positions once held by that of Will Canaguier III, Seth Dennis, Wyatt Thurman, and others, before spotting Ale Carminati and Landon Gibson. Both of the talented competitors were within striking distance, but Turner was calculated in seeing an opportunity to pounce. With persistence, those opportunities would come via passes on lap number five, when he would propel ahead of both, of the rivals) amongst the duo! While swiping at the goggle lens simultaneously, his mechanic would applaud and cheer as Jesson surged near the barrier of team members. There was minimal time remaining, and Turner Jr. knew that mistakes, couldn't be showcased. Therefore the utmost focus was displayed while blitzing his way to the finish Line. High-powered cornering maneuvers, and a sprint across the final straightaway, would lead him a fourth-place standing as crossed the finish Line — revealing his talent, at an incredible level within the sport!
