GRIT 304 — 450SX — 5th — Joey Savatgy
February 28, 2026 · Joey Savatgy

The atmosphere in Daytona, Florida, was like no other venue on the circuit. Fans from around the globe would travel to these historic grounds, to watch athletes such as Joey Savatgy compete. Therefore, he seemed to embrace the cheers and enthusiasm, as engines revved for practice on Saturday. Knowing that this loamy soil would have a plethora of moisture in it, he would begin to carve through inside lines with little regard for washing out or tucking the front end. His ability to pinpoint, wave, and plant the chassis, was next level. And led to a multitude of strong laps that rivaled the series leaders, as he powered to the finish line again and again, it was clear that he aspired for the highest of accolades for this one of a kind event. Upon exiting the raceway, his confidence seemed higher than ever. From there, he would be established on the line in heat number two, and there was little time to waste. He rapidly engaged in the transmission. and quickly released the clutch as soon as gates would fall. His ability to blast down the opening straight away, and remain agile in the opening moments, would lead to a standing of third being solidified. Though he knew he could not adopt the idea of complacency, especially in a sprint like format of this. He could see Malcolm Stewart and Hunter Lawrence not far ahead. It was evident that Savatgy's momentum from previous rounds) was now being portrayed once more. He continued to advance, and when lap four came to a fruition, and undeniable charge (and pass) on the Husqvarna athlete ensued! From there, he stormed forward with remarkable vision, and earned second-place at the checkered flag!
For the main event, he strove to assemble a strong series of initial sequences. He would race through the first lap, to collect an opening standing of eighth, before immediately storming ahead. His momentum through the series was palpable and after passing Christian Craig, he knew he could climb even further ahead on the overall leaderboard!
Seventh, was held for four laps - before he passed two competitors in the same lap... i.e. Malcolm Stewart and Garrett Marchbanks)! Now fifth, he did his best to establish a pace that couldn't be toppled by anyone who trailed. The championship contenders (i.e. Eli Tomac, Hunter Lawrence, Ken Roczen, and Cooper Webb) were a bit ahead of him... though that wouldn't stop Savatgy from doing his best to track them down! Steadily, he maintained composure while putting together a phenomenal pace on this deteriorated circuit. With the checkered flag nearing, it seemed as though Joey had this position solidified. And as all was finalized in Central Florida, it was the athlete who sported the number seventeen across his machine, who took the aforementioned standing of fifth a with a remarkable performance!
