GRIT 301 — 450SX 2nd — Hunter Lawrence

As each round of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship transpired, Honda's Hunter Lawrence continued to remain within the fight for the overall title. His relentless work-ethic had translated to a number of stellar finishes, and with this track in Glendale forcing athletes into significantly higher speeds than many of the other venue(s) across the country, many enthusiasts estimated that the prowess of the Australian athlete in outdoor territories, would carry-over to this Arizona circuit. His assembly of lap-times in practice, were exceptional. Lawrence appeared to be in perfect synchronization with his chassis — and he was an established favorite for success, as heat number one began. After bolting from the starting area, Lawrence would do everything possible to put maximum force and traction into the ground beneath him. This translated to a standing of third being occupied — though he was relentlessly pressuring Christian Craig, who was in front of him. The two would go back-and-forth for a significant amount of time, before Lawrence made a series of somewhat aggressive passing attempts...with the final lunge, "sticking" per se, in the corner after the finish line. This occurred with two minutes and twenty-five seconds on the clock — and with that advancement, he stormed forward to the finish line. In the main event, Lawrence managed to dodge the chaotic first corner — while overtaking Vince Friese, to claim the early race lead. He would hold-on to the first-place position before a few minutes, when Ken Roczen accelerated past just before the finish-line jump. Lawrence then resided in second — and from there he did his best to stay within striking distance of the German athlete. Though steadily, the Suzuki rider began to break away. Even subtle gaps were lengthened, where Ken amplified his margin by one-quarter, to one-half of a second. It was an admirable performance by the Australian in totality, but as the checkered flag was thrown, it was Lawrence who claimed second overall...though his consistency, was once again established amongst the consensus from industry members and enthusiasts of the sport.
