ENZO LOPES | GRIT-219 | SX 250
Looking to showcase some of the strongest skills of anyone in the 250cc SX division, Brazil's Enzo Lopes insisted on exhibiting a myriad of strong laps throughout the qualification process on Saturday. Laps were amassed throughout the afternoon, and it was apparent that the ClubMX Yamaha rider had engaged in a flow that was top-tier; rivaling that of Jett Lawrence and various other athletes within this respective West Coast campaign. His confidence was of the highest caliber, which led to an infiltration of the front field within heat two. Once rocketing from the line, he would scurry through the initial left hander and immediately contend for the lead with Honda's Mitchell Oldenburg and Kawasaki's Carson Mumford. The riders would shuffle various positions on the leaderboard, with Mumford actually working his way into the lead while Oldenburg fell to third...and Lopes remaining second while watching the every move of the Kawasaki adversary. This would lead to the sixth circuit, where Lopes noticed that his whoop speed was a bit faster than that of Carson's, leading to a scenario where a multitude of lapped riders were scattered in the corner before the finish-line. At that point, Enzo would speed through the latter portion of moguls and into the inside lane of the forthcoming right hander; making the move on the number fifty-two, as he pushed him to the outside! Now in the lead, it would be Lopes' race to lose...as he engaged in a series of strong lap-times with the entirety of the field behind him. The Brazilian would yearn to accomplish this goal for so long, and knew that his achievement could be actualized with mistake free sections in the final moments; and as al would come to a close, it was the number fifty-six who would claim a spectacular heat race win! There was little that could nullify his confidence for the main event, where he obtained fifth on the first lap and would proceed to move into fourth not long thereafter. It would then become a duel of sorts between he and Max Vohland; with the KTM rider not moving quite as fast amid certain portion(s) of the racetrack, while simultaneously allowing Lopes to gain ground. Which would lead to a move being made (on behalf of Lopes) in the corner just after the mechanic's area with nine and a half minutes remaining on the race clock; where Lopes dove to the inside and made a close pass on Vohland, (which was clean) but caused Vohland to go off balance and fall to the ground. He was then cemented in third, until eventually being overtaken by Jett Lawrence in the latter stages of the moto...and with a superb fourth place performance being earned, Lopes would prove that he was undoubtedly one of the strongest riders in the 250cc classification!
