DYLAN FERRANDIS - GRIT 242 450SX
May 18, 2024

GRIT-242 | 450 SX
Regarded as a standout competitor amongst the dry terrain for the earliest of qualification segments, Honda's Dylan Ferrandis possessed the confidence to excel in the races thereafter as well...regardless of the conditions that were presented. Though armed with enough safety gear and bike protection to lessen the conditions of the mud that had engulfed the racetrack, the French rider still knew what a track of this magnitude could entail as far as forcing mistakes - therefore he was vigilant when beginning the quest known as heat two, flying through the green flag circuit while being pursued by Jason Anderson. Ferrandis' paths through the ruts were incredible, as he landed from the over/under jump with the rear wheel spinning...flying amongst the inside and outside lines thereafter while constantly shifting gears en route to the finish line takeoff. Landing with authority when passing through the third and fourth circuits, he could see Justin Cooper ahead after the New York native had been overtaken by Eli Tomac. But it was too little, too late for the French athlete - managing to acquire fourth as racers returned to their respective pit areas. Sweeping through the opening corner of the main event, many in the class would narrowly miss the edges of the tunnel when speeding into turn two! However Ferrandis was able to navigate his way forward with a sense of awareness that was difficult for his competitors to replicate, established in sixth, but the advancing forward after passing Hunter Lawrence. Residing just behind the rear wheel of Ken Roczen, the Honda rider would actually make the move "stick" per se when exiting the longest rhythm lane and over the "SX" triple that followed...leaping through the mounds into the entry of the following corner, while keeping the Honda revving at the most efficient RPM. He would sustain that position until a mistake would cause him to descend to eighth, between Justin Cooper and Malcolm Stewart. But the resilient effort of the former 450cc outdoor champion could be felt by all in the crowd, where he fought for the eighth-place position as if it were for a gold medal...and as the checkered flag eventually concluded this fourteen-lap test of the highest demands, it was Ferrandis who left the infield with an eighth-place feat - knowing that he could climb even higher, in the weeks that remained for this 2024 Monster Energy SX Championship.
