To garner a top-ten position in the main event of a 450cc Supercross competition, was an extraordinary feat. The competition this year was tougher than ever before, but veteran Dean Wilson planned to excel in Salt Lake City, just as he'd done in the races prior! Amid practice laps, the rider from Scotland was exceptional in all facets - flowing from inside(s) to outside(s) with expertise while striving for the top of the leaderboard. That vision, seemed to carry into the night show as well...where he and countless other combatants dove into the opening corner with their sights set on acquiring the highest gate choice possible. Landing from the finish line, he could sense that the opponent by the name of Vince Friese was behind him and doing everything in his power to overtake him. However, as time went on, the battle between and the former rival would subside as WIlson's pace was a bit closer to Cooper Webb (who was third), then what the aforementioned Friese could seem to generate. Through the nine-lap process, Wilson continuously blitzed the whoops with confidence and a commanding run, entering into the bowl turn thereafter with unwavering speed while flinging roost from the rear wheel. This led to the eventual end of the moto, where the rider from Scotland was able to defend the fourth-place position through the checkered flag...while beating opponents such as Justin Hill, and Shane McElrath, respectively. For the main event, his initial standing of eighth was amongst the front runners in the division, and he would hold that position for a few laps before being overtaken by Dylan Ferrandis. Now ninth, the battle between he and Mitchell Oldenburg was then on, to remain within single digit territory. The grit that was shown by Wilson was admirable - but Oldenburg appeared to possess a few different lines that would cease the charge of the Scottish rider, deterring him to tenth as they pressed toward the halfway point. From that point onward, it was a matter of Wilson defending his top-ten residency against names like Colt Nichols, Justin Hill, and countless other top-tier combatants. But, at the end of the twenty-four lap contest it was Wilson who's final blitz through the whoops, was enough to sustain the tenth-place accolade. And with the duration of his SX career now in question (due to contemplating retirement), many in the industry are curious of Dean's next move...with the athlete aboard the number fifteen machine, being regarded as a legend - no matter where he decides to go from here.
