DEAN WILSON | GRIT-220 | SX 450
Honda's Dean Wilson had displayed a remarkable sense of attrition throughout the 2023 SX season, and hoped to conclude the series with spectacularity before round seventeen was finalized. His talents were set to be exhibited throughout day-time qualifying, where he and countless other opponents would quarrel for the top step of the leaderboard - and Dean's whoop speed would arguably be unparalleled by the vast majority of riders in the field. It was evident that his sense of self belief was going to equate to a strong finish in the main event, and as those on the starting grid would blast away from the respective metal grate (for heat race competition) it was Wilson who immediately battled for the lead! From each corner, to the following straightaway that proceeded it, Wilson was on point and willing to carry a surplus of momentum into a number of facets in order to distance himself from the pack that trailed. But Ken Roczen had to be acknowledged in his quest to the front of the field and moved ahead of Dean while pushing the Fire Power Honda rider to second; where he remained through the halfway point. The number fifteen would glance over his shoulder on the "SX" triple to see that the gap between he and Kyle Chisholm had grown, allowing Wilson to persevere forward with a tapered effort of sorts (in order to conserve energy for the main event). He would fly past the mechanic's area time and time again, en route to a superb second place score; which granted him an outstanding gate choice for the main event. His jump from behind the line and navigation through the first turn though, weren't necessarily as desired where he garnered a standing of eighth; but quickly moved to sixth in the two laps that followed. Following Justin Hill through the number of ruts that were scattered across the course, Wilson would inherit another position on behalf of Kyle Chisholm's misfortune; where was then categorized in fifth place, with a large portion of the moto still left to be completed. And as he sped through the halfway point while seeing Adam Cianciarulo in the distance (who was fourth) Wilson's competitive spirit would never cease to propel him forward. His expertise amongst the deterred conditions was next level, and had him continuing to triple into certain corners despite departing into the air, and returning to the racing surface in a sea of ruts! Eventually concluding the finalé in fifth, the final effort of the veteran would be applaud worthy and respected by all who watched.
