DEAN WILSON | GRIT-217 | SX 450
The tenacity of Dean Wilson was an attribute that continued to be acknowledged and applauded by those in the Fire Power Honda assembly, which motivated him to battle amongst the timing and scoring sessions in Saturday's exhibition at MetLife Stadium. Pummeling the whoop section with brute force and wide-open throttle maneuvering, the number fifteen of Wilson was astounding throughout countless laps of qualifying; which had him embodying an eager sense of moving forward throughout the heat race(s) that followed. As the pack then funneled through the first corner of heat two, it was the number fifteen of Wilson who could be seen scrubbing and compressing the forks to the best of his abilities while executing the first two laps of action. The Scottish rider would find success throughout a number of outside lines, though a few risky instances of leaving the inside lane open would allow Team Tedder's Josh Hill behind him to attempt to move around him. Wilson's fortitude wasn't easily broken though, as he swayed the chassis from right to left and into the corner that was just after the finish line double. Feathering the clutch as they (he and Hill) passed the halfway point, Dean's combination of tripling (in the rhythm lane just after the start) would be a catalyst of sorts that enabled him to power toward the final checkered flag...keeping the likes of Hill and Chase Marquier at bay before heading to the main event. The action for the finalé was electric and had the crowd on their feet, screaming with applause and cheer while twenty-two of the world's fastest "SX" racers performed for thousands of attendee's in the New York City area! Wilson was then designated around the fifth-place position and hoping to move forward to the best of his abilities, though his vision would be marred by moisture and mud! Though the championship contenders were exhibiting phenomenal pace(s) in their own right, it was Dean who resided inside the top-seven for good portion of the moto. The track was absolutely horrendous, with ruts being filled with water and a vision now so scarce that even those with the skillset of Wilson could hardly make out certain obstacles on the track. But the native of Scotland had immense experience in rough conditions, and proceed to execute his lines on the track with fluidity while fighting to stay inside the top-ten. Jumping over the finish-line and "SX" triple would be tasks of their own, but the fearlessness of Wilson would allow him to elevate over the competition with substantial leaps...and as even he came into lap traffic (battling for tenth and eleventh) Dean was mindful of continuously surging forward, but not getting too ahead of himself. The former outdoor 250cc MX Champion knew what was at stake, and as the nearly twenty minute tenure was completed, it would be Wilson who'd done enough to accrue tenth overall in the standing(s); which was something to build from in the rounds on the horizon.
