COTY SCHOCK | GRIT-212 | SX 250
Though the track would be moisture-ridden long before action began on Saturday, Coty Schock knew that his fearless mentality would ultimately prevail by the time festivities were set to include. His array of outdoor success was destined to translate on this deteriorating circuit, which was carved with lines from the first lap(s) of untimed practice around the noon hour. Making sure to stay atop the foot-pegs as the frame would scrape the transitions and earliest angles of takeoff's, his mastering of the rhythm sections would be eye-opening to those who watched practice. And for those in his supporting cast, they couldn't wait to see what the Honda athlete could generate following opening ceremonies. The gates would rise and as his rear wheel spun from the grate behind, it was an all-out charge to the first turn (with zero regard for the whereabouts of his opponents). Jumping over the "SX" triple before the left-handed berm to follow, he was mindful of not rolling atop the bend at the highest angle (otherwise he could be pushed wide, block-passed, or even t-boned). Doing enough to attempt a tripling combination in the brief platter of obstacles that followed, his whereabouts within the first three laps would linger around a top five position. By the halfway point, the ruts on the inside(s) of the one-eighties (and even nineties) were now substantially developing; taking hold of his tires and forcing them to follow in the confines of the groove, until his momentum was halted with a red-flag restart. Though able to reengage in the competitive mentality quickly, he was aware that the track would drastically change prior to his next endeavor in the main event, but proceeded with differing angles when hitting the back to back ninety-degree corner(s) after the finish-line. Leaping from atop the tabletop while en route to the checkered flag, his final residency of seventh would be superb for his main event gate choice. Once departing from the line, the fight for line selection was crucial as he circulated the Indianapolis course. Diving into the ravines that took part in the corner(s) before the whoop section, he knew that once he was into a particular rut, there was no abruptly exiting. Therefore when Jeremy Hand approached his rear wheel in the early going, his defensive tactics were seemingly erased and he focused on the offensive front instead. Blasting into the corner on laps eleven and twelve before the "SX" triple, there was a particular edge on the innermost rut that was giving riders fits; but with the right amount of balance, he would sway outside and position his Honda optimally for the sectors that followed. Time would eventually come to an end, and as he cemented his way into tenth, his effort(s) in Indiana were certain to be acknowledged by all in the industry.
