The odds of claiming an overall championship at the final round of the series had diminished, but the resilience of Cooper Webb was a trait that couldn't be overlooked. He'd been counted out on countless occasions when the narrative was against him, and time after time, had continued to prove the doubters wrong. Following a solid practice effort in Utah, where his line selection, stamina, and overall sense of attacking the racetrack was top-tier, his attention turned toward the opening bit of heat racing...and even though he knew he was a bit hindered due to his thumb injury, Yamaha's Webb seemed to have a game-plan of trying to attack Jett Lawrence as quickly as possible...which came to fruition, in the opening corner of the divisional round! An inside attempt of block-passing/slight ramming would be conducted by Webb, but it wasn't enough to divert Lawrence from taking the lead. Justin Barcia was also able to break away and ahead of the front fender of the Yamaha rider...putting him into third place as laps began to transpire. He wasn't going to give up by any means, but many in the crowd could sense the bit of frustration that was being undertaken by the North Carolina native. He continued to charge forward to the finish line, racing with all of his might and embodying the competitive spirit that his fans had come to now over the years. Ultimately categorized in third, he had vowed to give one hundred percent effort for the main event that was on the horizon. He bolted from the starting gate to the best of his ability, and came through the initial sections of the racecourse while solidified at the front of the pack. He quickly made passes on Jason Anderson and Hunter Lawrence, inheriting the third-place residency as a result. Take-outs and crashes of various sorts were going on behind him, leaving him all alone in third as action would transpire. He eyed the rear wheel of his teammate Justin Cooper, but couldn't seem to nullify the gap that the New York native had created as the checkered flag grew nearer. Battling through pain, adversity, and difficult circumstances because of his thumb injury, Webb's tenacity amid the twenty-four lap contest was admirable - and eventually led to the third-place position being clenched, as engines ceased in Salt Lake City, Utah.
