COOPER WEBB - GRIT 249 450SX

GRIT-249 | 450 SX

June 3rd, 2024 12:00 pm

With the championship on his mind, Cooper Webb presented his usual antics prior to the first heat race of the afternoon beginning. He was certainly trying to rattle the mentality of Jett Lawrence, and would do so once more, as the field erupted from turn number one of the opening heat race. With a fresh track at his disposal, he scurried away from Lawrence (who had crashed in turn number one) and did his best to follow former champion Eli Tomac, who led the field around. Moving around Ty Masterpool rather quickly, for second, Webb was in the runner-up position while now beginning to replicate the line choice(s) of his teammate. Powering through the corners with explosiveness, Webb's speed in the sand was rather surprising considering his normal, SX prowess. He leaped onto the straightaway thereafter with authority, reiterating that his talent level in the current year had definitely surged. Though the gap between he and the "number three" stayed a bit distant, the effort on behalf of Webb was encouraging. And especially from his perspective, would there be an advantage gained. His rival in the championship (Jett Lawrence) had undergone a substantial mistake in the opening sequences, leaving him behind, and granting Webb a furthered gate choice as a result. Therefore, as the checkered flag was thrown, it was Cooper who obtained second before embarking on the main event. His start for the finalé was solid, and in contention for the lead as the narrative unraveled. However, both Jett and Eli were make their way ahead in the blink of an eye, leaving the resident of "NC" to third while he stalked his opponents in the championship chase. Creating notable combinations through the longest rhythm circuit on the track, his ability to seat bounce out of the preceding left-hander was notable...and enabled him to gain time on "ET3." He then ran third, while fiercely battling with Eli and Jett Lawrence...but Cooper would slide to the inside after the latter "SX" triple and passed the Colorado native after a minute and a half of racing was completed. And once into the runner-up position, Cooper appeared to be on-point, and paralleled to race leader Jett Lawrence. Though as time progressed, Jett's aptitude seemed to flourish...all the while Chase Sexton made his way forward. The Illinois native saw an opportunity to make a pass near the finish line, on the sixteenth circuit, which also led to he and Cooper briefly coming together, in a ricochet sequence of sorts! Unable to counter, Webb appeared to reside third through the final stages...until Jason Anderson's last corner passing attempt, was a catalyst for another small collision to occur on behalf of Webb - sending Cooper to the ground, in the final corner! Though able to remount for fourth, he was visibly displeased with how the event turned out.
