Yamaha's Cooper Webb had somehow managed to climb into a tie, for the points lead, between he and Jett Lawrence! The veteran could never be counted out, and once again proved that he was a force to be dealt with as action began in Nashville. His speed had undoubtedly improved since the beginning of the season, and thought qualification, Webb's newfound momentum on the motorcycle was showcased. Which led to heat two, where he quickly located the rear wheel of Jett Lawrence. The opponent whom he was forced to combat for the title was in the lead, but Webb was constantly analyzing in the runner-up position. Gathering knowledge as each lap transpired, Webb was ambitious, but calculated while monitoring the Honda rider who was ahead. Throughout the nine-lap sequence, he was defending the position from that of Eli Tomac and Malcolm Stewart who trailed as well. Overall, Webb's duration in the runner-up spot was sustained through the checkered flag - leading to an all-out battle yet to come, in the main event. The narrative for the finalé was hard to describe, with many of the series contenders up front and within reach for the overall victory. He appeared to reside around the fourth-place spot, with Jett Lawrence, Ken Roczen, and Eli Tomac establishing a sensational pace in front of him. And though the leaders were beginning to break away, Webb wasn't going to ride over the edge per se. He watched from afar, as countless mistakes were made...and the unfortunate bike malfunction on behalf of Ken Roczen was devastating for the German rider. This, would allow Webb to inherit third place. But the distance between he, and Tomac (who was second) was too much to overcome. He didn't appear comfortable on the racetrack, it seemed as though he took a step back and examine the bigger picture (i.e. championship) when deciding on how hard to elevate his pace. It was just last year, where Webb lost the championship here...creating a somewhat run of redemption as he occupied the bronze medal position in the final stages of the moto. With Lawrence ahead of the pack and seeking to take the win as the checkered flag neared, it was North Carolina's Cooper Webb who claimed third as all was said and done in Music City - finishing just behind his teammate (Eli Tomac), but remaining well within the fight for an overall championship!
