With a stealth-like persona while navigating his way through practice, the former champion, Cooper Webb, couldn't be counted out with the title window narrowing as each week passed. Though the veteran of the division knew that he could capitalize on the opportunity whenever it presented itself, and made sure to warrant attention from the competition as he blitzed through the Massachusetts canvas on Saturday afternoon. His unorthodox lines were already beginning to be displayed, long before the checkered flag was thrown. And upon exiting the raceway, the rider from North Carolina couldn't wait to return to the playing field for that of heat two. He quickly advanced with little caution as the green flag waved for the divisional round, accelerating with authority as he raced to an initial position of first place in the running order. Though Jett Lawrence (who was battling Jason Anderson for second) wanted to make moves as quickly as possible, seeking the most optimal lines to combat the leading, Yamaha rider. Webb was doing everything in his power to keep Lawrence at bay, and defended the first place position rather well...until Lawrence saw an opportunity to run him to the outside of the berm just after the "SX" triple. The pass was definitively made, via Jett's momentum. With less than two laps to go, there was little time to retaliate...leaving Cooper to ultimately garner second, before the finalé. Into the main event, he and opponents like Jett Lawrence would go. Every rider within the championship hunt was swinging for the fences per se, and as the plot began to unravel within the finalé, it was Cooper who occupied a standing of first after instantly contending for the hole-shot. There was little time to waste, but he had immense pressure from Ken Roczen through the green flag circuit and immediately thereafter. Both Roczen, and Sexton, would then combine their efforts to rally through the entire of the moto in pursuit of overtaking Webb. But even with the leading margin, Webb tolerated the pressure. He welcomed the countless charging attempts that were created on behalf of his competitors. This was sustained, well through the eighteenth lap...when both athletes (i.e. Roczen and Sexton) would conduct one final lunge (per se) toward the North Carolina native. Though Sexton, truly caused the margin between both competitors to shrink - Webb wouldn't oblige to Sexton's proposal, and instead, countered with even more speed of his own! Eventually defending the first-place position through the checkered flag, Webb was now tied as the points leader, when moving into round fourteen!
