Cooper Webb, could never be counted out. The Yamaha rider had proven time and time again, that he was a threat to claim a championship at all times - and proceeded to sustain that notion for round twelve of the SX championship this past weekend. Continuing to rise to the occasion after practice concluded, the North Carolina native acquired an eleventh-place standing initially in moto-one, but quickly advanced into single digits after passing riders like Justin Hill and Shane McElrath. He and Malcolm Stewart would partake in an extensive battle near the mid-point of the moto, with both riders making slight mistakes, which led them (at times) to be off-balanced and divert from their desired lines. However, it was Webb who eventually countered with a definitive run by the conclusion of lap seven - which solidified his position ahead of the Husqvarna rider. Maintaining a flow amongst the rutted canvas, Webb would attempt to race to the rear wheel of Jason Anderson. Though unable to move past the Kawasaki rider, the fifth-place standing that was earned at the checkered flag, was one of notable outcome. For main event two, his initial standing of fifth was quickly swapped with a standing of third after passing both, Chase Sexton and Justin Cooper via brilliant maneuvering amongst the array of combination(s) in both extensive rhythm sections. Despite ruts being trenched aboard each takeoff, Cooper maintained brilliant line selection and ultimately acquired the third-place standing at the halfway point. All seemed to be well, until the Yamaha rider was an unfortunate recipient of a crash near the inner-most tuff-block, of a bend just before the finish line! The stalling of momentum was paramount in his plummet to seventh, but his fight forward couldn't be nullified with the checkered flag waving not far ahead. He would inherit a position of Justin Cooper, and also passed Aaron Plessinger as well before the concluding circuit...until an unfortunate penalty was given to him (along with numerous others) for jumping on the red cross flag (that was waved alongside the checkered flag). Now finalized in sixth, he knew that he would have to give it his all in round three, if he aspired to reside on the podium. That's exactly what occurred, with the Yamaha rider residing third behind Chase Sexton, for a significant portion of time. He was methodical, and used the track as a chess board per se where he could plot his moves alongside of the KTM opponent. The constant pressure would force the Illinois native into a mistake, before the "SX" triple that was just after the switchback section...granting Webb the second-place accolade, with just under five minutes to go. Now in the runner-up standing, he remained here as the checkered flag was thrown - which resulted in a brilliant overall score of second (as well), where he once again gained a significant portion of points on the red-plate holder, Jett Lawrence.
